New Music Thursdays on The Aftershock

March 13, 2008

Hellyeah – Thank You ***** (Album: Hellyeah)

Review: Just when you think Chad Gray has nothing else better to do…he makes another side band called Hellyeah and it works out to perfection. “Thank You” is my song of the week for New Music Thursday. Some would think that Hellyeah is basically another version of Mudvayne, well it’s not. It might have the lead singer and a guitarist…but its different feelings and sounds. The third single off of their self-titled album portrays thanks in many ways…the message says it all. Not as heavy as you think they’d be, but it works out really well. Their self-titled album is in stores right now…and expect another album to possible hit stores soon thanks to lead singer Chad Gray.

Anew Revolution – Done **** (Album: Rise)

Review: I don’t know about you…but I LOVE hearing from new bands and Anew Revolution is a good band to get my goodies going. Their newest single “Done” has opened themselves to look really good in the future. The best way to describe these guys is Metal-Rock. Guitar riffs in this song are phenomenal and the singer is amazing as well…I don’t want to forget about the sweet ass guitar solo as well, amazing! It’s something that’ll rise on the charts in the future but for some reason, it didn’t fancy my goodies ALL the way. Anew Revolution needs work on something and they’ll know what it is. Their newest album “Rise” is hitting stores 4/15…pick it up if you want!

Paramore – That’s What You Get ****1/2 (Album: Riot!)

Review: When you need a mix of rock and a little of punk/alternative…this is what you need to get you going. The newest single from Paramore, “That’s What You Get”, is something unique to rock and I like it a lot. You might have heard these guys in the past if you play a lot of video games or if you watch VH1 religiously…they are everywhere. Their newest single is something that grabs your attention especially when it works good with their female lead singer. It’s got nice guitars riffs and I love Hayley Williams’ voice…female rock singers just give me this funny feeling and it rocks me in a certain way. If this doesn’t fancy you, I don’t know what will. The album “Riot” is in stores now…go fancy yourself if you will.

Another Big Machine – Brand New Kind of Love **** (Album: N/A)

Review: If you want to say that this band isn’t rock and just another one of those soft touchy bands…well, then you’re wrong. Another Big Machine hit the rock scene big last year in ’07 and they’re looking to do it again with their newest single “Brand New Kind of Love”. If you listen to this song carefully, it reminds you of Alter Bridge in a sense. The soft guitar riffs, the way the lead singer rocks his voice and basically the softness of the song. Some people think that the heavy metal – hard rock stuff hits the charts pretty high…you’re wrong. This is a band that you want to keep your eyes and ears open for this year. Their new debut album hits stores sometime in the early summer…details coming soon when I know! J

Rise Against – The Good Left Undone **** (Album: The Sufferer & the Witness)

Review: This band is known for their alternative point of view…but this time, they have jumped ship and it’s awesome. “The Good Left Undone” is the newest single from Rise Against and you’re obviously thinking to yourself why would I put a punk-like song on here…it isn’t punk my friend. This song has the heaviness that a hard rock song would have…the drum beats make it perfect and the screaming in the chorus makes it something original to Rise Against. The best part about this song is that after the chorus…they slow it down a bit and then bring it back to normal, it’s unique and entertaining! “The Sufferer & the Witness” is in stores now and definitely look for their fifth studio album to hit stores this summer too!

Taproot – You’re Not Home Tonight ***** (Album: Our Long Road Home)

Review: It’s time to bust out the new stuff from Taproot and boy do I got it! “You’re Not Home Tonight” is automatically a 5 star song inside New Music Thursday! You know when you find a band when they first come out and you assume they are going to be huge in the future? Taproot was one of them and still is. This song is an awesome way to kick off their newest album and it’s amazing in every way! It’s new Taproot and it’s the old Taproot, but new and old…are always good in my book. Taproot’s newest album “Our Long Road Home” hits stores soon; possibly in the early summer…this is a band you NEED to support! Check it out.
