New Music Thursdays on The Aftershock

NEW MUSIC THURSDAY ARCHIVE FOR 4/3/08:

Korn – Kiss **** (Album: Untitled Album)

Review: You know, you would think Korn would be a “weird/goth” band to most of us…but to some of us, that’s normal! “Kiss” is the newest single from Korn and it’s got “weird/goth” written all over it. The reason I say this…the song starts out slow enough to the point where you don’t even know this is Korn, then Jonathan Davis starts singing and them BAM!...rocks out with a crazy chorus. Then it slows down again and then it comes back to normal, then after that…Korn hits the song with their originality. Every since the late 90’s…I have been a huge fan of Korn and they have not disappointed me at all so far…well, “Untouchables” had it’s moments but I’ll let that one slide. Their new Untitled Album is in stores right now…you have to check it out Korn Heads!

The Gutter Twins – Idle Hands **** (Album: Saturnalia)

Review: There is always that one band as I mentioned a long time ago that always catches your ear when you’re listening at the right time. The Gutter Twins are rockin’ their new single “Idle Hands”! This Gothic/Blues band from the other side of the world has made their mark here in the U.S. This song has its good moments, but it also has little bad things to it. The way the song goes beat wise, it’s phenomenal. For some reason…the singers of the group are somewhat monotone in a sense…and if you’re a music fanatic or in a band, you might know what I am talking about. I am not dissing this song at all, don’t get me wrong…I am just saying it needs a little improvement and I think they’ll be on top! “Saturnalia” just hits stores last month and I think that if you’re into some new music…these guys are worth it!

Foo Fighters – Let It Die ****1/2 (Album: Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace)

Review: As long as Dave Grohl has his baby…he’s never gonna give up on the Foo Fighters. Their third single off this album is called “Let It Die” and good thing the song didn’t die on us. I feel for Grohl…he can play any instrument he wants and he can sing whatever he wants and still get away with it; hence this song. When you’re listening to this song at first, you wonder if the whole thing is going to be slow and if he’s gonna say anything other then “Let It Die”…but once the half-way point comes…sit back and throw up the rock-fist because you’re in for the ride of your life! You know a band is good during this generation when they win 3 Grammies for their newest album…feels good, doesn’t it? The Grammy winning album “Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace” is on the stores shelves and it is a MUST!

Rev Theory – Hell Yeah ***** (Album: Light It Up)

Review: Sometimes in your musical life, you know when something is amazingly good and when something is horribly awful…this is amazingly good. Rev Theory’s newest single, “Hell Yeah”, is my song of the week for New Music Thursday. This song has mostly everything you need to basically jump in that mosh-pit and start busting some bodies up! I know I say that with most of my songs of the week, but this is totally true! And the chorus to this song…excellent! This song reminds me of sports or working out, whether it be playing a video game or physically doing something…it really makes you want to get up and yell “Hell Yeah!” A-MAZ-ING!!! Their newly anticipated album “Light It Up” hits stores June 10 th…if you don’t buy this album, I’ll buy it for you! (But you have to pay me back! J ) YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Ligion – On The Way **** (Album: External Affairs)

Review: You would think sometimes that if you can’t pronounce the name of the band, you would think they’d suck…this is the exception. “On The Way” is the newest single from Ligion and it rocks hard! This song feels like one of those laid back, mellow type rock songs and the way they executed it is quite excellent. The Nashville band has risen to excellence and it’s their time to shine. The drums in this song are good as well as the lead singer. Did you know the lead singer’s name is Ligion? You would assume he named the band after himself! (Duh!) There is really nothing else to say about this song other then it rocks and I won’t be surprised if their album goes platinum or even gold in about a year! “External Affairs” is their newest album and it is available to purchase! Make it go platinum or gold so I won’t be called a liar!!!

Under The Flood – In Vain ****1/2 (Album: The Witness)

Review: Here’s another one of those bands that knows how to rock out with their…well, just rock out! The newest one from Under The Flood is titled “In Vain” and it rocks hard! I like the way the song is arranged and also, the lead singer has a phenomenal voice! The other good thing about this song is that it’s a message song…talking about being in vain obviously and life in general…songs like this are good. Just like the band says, it’s time to muddy up the water and they have done just that! The newest album from Under The Flood is titled “The Witness” and I could only assume it is in stores right now, if not…it’s coming out soon! Check it out, it doesn’t hurt to try!
