New Music Thursdays on The Aftershock

June 19, 2008

Serj Tankian – Lie, Lie, Lie ****1/2 (Album:  Elect the Dead)

Review:  When you take a band like System of a Down and turn them into gold, you know the lead singer of the band is a good man and can do any damn thing he wants.  The newest single from the lead singer of System of a Down, Serj Tankian, is titled “Lie, Lie, Lie” and I know what you’re thinking…this song is all about lying!  HI-YO!  The cool thing about Serj, whenever he does his own stuff…he always sounds like he has S.O.A.D to back him up in all of his songs…and this is one of them.  It’s hard to explain Tankian’s sound, let alone S.O.A.D’s sound, but it is very unique and quite extraordinary.  I would have given this song the song of the week, but for some reason…Serj sounds like he repeating the WHOLE chorus throughout the song and it sort of gets annoying after awhile…other then that, I want Serj Tankian’s goatee.  The latest album from the man they call Serj Tankian is called “Elect the Dead” and it is in stores and available online right now.  Serj may be doing his own thing right now…but System of a Down is NOT dead…they will be back and better then ever.

Soulidium – The Light ****1/2 (Album:  Children of Chaos)

Review:  I could start off saying that this band is new and you’ve never heard of them before…but I can’t, they’ve been around for awhile and thanks to MySpace…everyone is starting to get to know them.  This band is called Soulidium and their newest single is titled “The Light” and this light is bright and has a nice future way up ahead of them.  I really love the way Soulidium sounds, esspecially the lead singer, Michael McKnight, he has that voice that doesn’t kill song or make it too heavy where you wouldn’t like it at first.  Like a Corey Taylor/Brent Smith combination…PRICELESS!  I was really debating whether I should have given “The Light” song of the week or not…I like the way this song sounds and I can’t stop listening to McKnight’s voice…but for some reason something hit me…just like other “unknown bands”, I don’t know them real well.  But I hope in the long run I can take what I just said and make myself regret it all…this band is going to rock in the near future.  Soulidium’s newest album is titled “Children of Chaos” and it is available in stores right now.  Like I said before, this band is well unknown to most of us, but check them out and let everyone know what they are missing.

Royal Bliss – Save Me ***** (Album:  Life In Between)

Review:  Here is another band that may hit your ears and eyes as a new band…but regardless of that, you’ll love them for who they are.  This new single from Royal Bliss is titled “Save Me” and this song is song of the week inside New Music Thursday!  The new band thing kind of hits you sometimes…it’s a like 50/50 coin flip on whether you’ll like them or not.  If you were to flip a coin for this band…it would land on its side.  The music is phenomenal, the lead singer can sing and this band knows what they are doing.  I know that one of the things that’ll stump you is that I don’t know this band that well, BUT I still gave them song of the week inside New Music Thursday.  Well, sometimes you know when to hold ‘em, and know when to fold ‘em…I know that didn’t make sense but I wanted to say it!  Anyways, I gave them song of the week because I believe in them 150%...and I know in the future this band is going somewhere.  The newest album from Royal Bliss is titled “Life In Between” and it’s looking to hit stores on August 5th.  This new band is out and about in the nation and I’ll tell you this much…this band is definitely not going to disappoint you at all.  Check it.
