SUMMARY:Marquette - NMU Free Cybersecurity Summer Camp for Kids
DESCRIPTION:NMU Free Cybersecurity Summer Camp Seeks Applicants \nStudents entering grades 9-11 in the fall are invited to apply for a free\, weeklong residential Cybersecurity Summer Camp hosted by the Upper Peninsula Cybersecurity Institute at Northern Michigan University\, with support from the Central U.P. MiSTEM Network and Seaborg Mathematics and Science Center. The camp will take place July 13-18 at NMU. It is designed to introduce students to the rapidly growing field of cybersecurity through a blend of virtual and in-person experiences. The application deadline is May 16. \nThe program begins with a virtual component in June 2025\, consisting of approximately four hours of synchronous learning and six to eight hours of asynchronous activities. On Sunday\, July 13\, accepted students will arrive on NMU’s campus in Marquette to begin the in-person portion of the camp\, where they will stay in a university residence hall. \nAll instruction and hands-on learning will take place in NMU’s Seaborg Mathematics and Science Center. Campers will explore core concepts in cybersecurity\, including ethical hacking\, introductory programming\, Internet of Things (IoT) technologies\, and career pathways in the cybersecurity field. Instruction will be led by experienced educators in an immersive\, hands-on format. \nIn addition to academic sessions\, campers will participate in organized recreational activities during the evenings to build camaraderie and enhance the overall experience. After the in-person portion concludes\, participants will engage in a final round of virtual activities to reinforce their learning. \nThere is no cost to attend the camp for accepted applicants. DESCRIPTION:NMU Seaborg Center Offers Kids ‘Summer of STEM’ \nNorthern Michigan University’s Glenn T. Seaborg Mathematics and Science Center will host a series of summer programs for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. These programs are designed to foster curiosity\, creativity and career exploration through immersive\, hands-on learning experiences in science\, technology\, engineering and mathematics (STEM). \nSummer College for Kids\, open to students in grades K–8\, provides engaging educational opportunities. Grades K–6 will explore topics such as LEGO robotics\, coding fundamentals and other STEM-related subjects through hands-on\, minds-on classes. Grades 7–8 will participate in career-focused STEM exploration\, including visits to local businesses and industry partners. \nSessions will run June 23–27 and July 7–11\, with morning classes held from 9 a.m. to noon and optional afternoon classes from 1-4 p.m. An optional supervised Lunch Bunch session is available from noon to 1 p.m.\, where students can bring their own lunch. The cost is $75 per class\, and an extra $10 for optional lunch supervision. \nCamp Infinity\, running July 21–25\, is a full-day technology camp for girls in grades 5–8. The program introduces participants to computer and internet technologies through engaging\, instructor-led activities. The camp runs 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, Monday through Friday\, and includes a light breakfast and lunch.
