SUMMARY:Eagle Mine Free Public Tours
DESCRIPTION:Eagle Mine to offer Free Public Tours of Facilities \n\nCHAMPION\, Mich.\, April 22\, 2025—A series of public tours of Eagle Mine facilities will be offered during the summer. Tour locations will alternate between the Eagle Mine in Big Bay and the Humboldt Mill in Champion on Thursdays from July to September. \n\nTours of the Eagle Mine will be offered on the following dates from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: June 19\, July 10\, July 24\, August 7\, August 21\, September 4\, and September 18. \n\nThe Eagle Mine Tour is primarily a driving surface tour of the mine site with a walking tour through the water treatment plant. The mine tour does not go underground. You will see where the ore is brought up from underground and where it is stored and loaded into the haul trucks. Other surface facilities include the storage area for development (or waste) rock\, the backfill plant\, the truck repair shop\, and the water treatment plant. \n\nEagle Mine tour participants meet at the Eagle Mine Information Center at 153 A West Washington Street in downtown Marquette\, and bus transportation is provided for the tour. \n\nTours of the Humboldt Mill will be offered on the following dates from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.: June 26\, July 17\, July 31\, August 14\, September 11\, and September 25. \n\nOn the Humboldt Mill Tour\, you will see what happens to the ore after it leaves the mine site. The tour is a walking tour that begins at the administrative office. It follows the circuit of crushing\, grinding\, and flotation processes\, taking the ore from a haul truck to a rail car. Visitors should be prepared to walk on-site for about an hour\, including up and down stairs and over metal grating. \n\nTransportation is not provided for the Humboldt Mill tour. Participants will park in the Visitor Parking lot and meet inside the Administration Building. \n\nRegistration for the tours is required. Participants must be 13 years or older\, and an adult must accompany those under 18. Register at www.eaglemine.com/tours. \n###

DESCRIPTION:Better Together will meet on Thursday\, August 14 at 9:30 at the Zion Lutheran church on 400 Ingot Street in Hancock. The speaker will be Duffy Lepisto and her topic will be “How God Provides.”  Duffy and her husband Russ spend winters in southern Texas ministering to people there\, and in Mexico. She always has great stories to share about their adventures. Special music will be provided by Marlain Birdi who is a missionary in India. All area women are invited to attend this fun and inspiring event. The goal of this gathering is to bring women together to find friendship\, support and encouragement. A brunch will be served and there is a suggested donation of $10.  All proceeds over the cost of the event will be donated to local charities. DESCRIPTION:Marquette –Silver Creek Church and Silver Creek Thrift are partnering with Feeding America West Michigan to host a Mobile Food Pantry. Taking place on Thursday\, August 14. Food distribution will begin at 10:00am and continue while supplies last or until 11:30am. Food will be available for approximately 550 families. Due to changes with Feeding America West Michigan\, proxy pickup will be limited. This will be a drive-thru event with directions given by parking lot attendants. Guests are asked to remain in their cars and have adequate space prepared in their trunk or back seat in advance to allow the distribution team to place food boxes directly in the vehicle. Silver Creek Church and Silver Creek Thrift are located at 219 Silver Creek Road in Harvey. \nBusinesses or organizations that are interested in supporting these monthly mobile food pantries are encouraged to call 906.249.1715 for more information.

DESCRIPTION:Copper Country Community Band Announces Summer Concert Series\nThe Copper Country Community Band is proud to present a series of five summer concerts across the Keweenaw. Under the direction of Amy Johnson and Micah Erickson\, this all-volunteer group of approximately 35 musicians from across the Copper Country will bring audiences a lively mix of marches\, classic concert band repertoire\, and popular medleys. \nAll concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. – All concerts are free to attend. Donations are gratefully accepted at the other concerts\, with the concert on Thursday\, August 28 specifically going towards the Houghton County Road Commission\, to raise funds as they deal with the road failures from the most recent flooding. The schedule is as follows: \n\nThursday\, August 14 – Lake Linden Park\nMonday\, August 18 – Bethany Baptist Church (Dollar Bay)\nThursday\, August 28 – Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (Chassell) – Benefit for Houghton Country Road Commission\nThursday\, September 4 – Portage Lake United Church (Houghton)\n\nNow in its third decade of performing\, the Copper Country Community Band continues its mission of bringing quality live music to the region.
