SUMMARY:Marquette - Youth Sailing Lessons
DESCRIPTION:Youth Sailing Lessons Offered this Summer \n  \nThe Marquette Junior Yacht Club will again offer youth sailing lessons this summer to the public. The program will provide the basic fundamentals of sailing for beginner ages 8-17 and expanded skill training for returning intermediate sailors. Instruction takes place both on and off the water by certified sailing instructors at the Marquette Yacht Club location\, E Main Street\, Marquette. Students will convene daily at the MJYC boathouse space generously donated by the Marquette Fish Producers. \n  \nThe 2025 schedule is as follows: July 7 – July 11\, July 14 – July 18\, July 21 – July 25\, July 28 – August 1\, August 4 – August 8 and August 11 – August 15. There are two sessions per day from 10:00 am-12:45 pm and from 2:00 pm-4:45 pm. Students can register for one or more weeks and multiple sessions. Cost per one week session is $225. SUMMARY:NMU Hosts 'Juneteenth: Week of Jubilee'
DESCRIPTION:Northern Michigan University will present “Juneteenth: Week of Jubilee\,” an educational and cultural event series scheduled for June 16-20. The week is dedicated to honoring American history\, celebrating the contributions of African American communities\, and encouraging civic learning\, unity and reflection. \nRecognized as a federal holiday\, Juneteenth commemorates the moment in 1865 when the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Galveston\, Texas. NMU invites students\, families and community members to participate in inclusive programming that highlights music\, storytelling\, the arts\, and historical education. \n“Juneteenth: Week of Jubilee is a community-centered opportunity to learn\, connect and celebrate American history and values\,” said Freddy Sims Jr.\, coordinator of NMU’s Center for Community and Connection. “We look forward to welcoming the public to a meaningful series of events that inspire civic pride and cultural appreciation.” \nThe Juneteenth celebration schedule follows. All events are free and open to the public. This free\, family-friendly picnic will feature music\, food\, games and guest speakers. It provides a relaxed space for connection\, reflection and honoring the importance of freedom and community. \nTuesday\, June 17 \nRhythms & Motion of Freedom: Drum Workshop\, 6-8 p.m.\, Ore Dock Brewing Company. This interactive workshop explores the cultural and historical significance of drumming\, highlighting how music has served as a form of storytelling and expression across generations. \nWednesday\, June 18 \nRhythms & Motion of Freedom: Dance Workshop\, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.\, Ore Dock Brewing Company. Led by experienced facilitators\, this community dance session continues the celebration of music and movement\, encouraging wellness\, cultural understanding and creative engagement. \nThursday\, June 19 (Juneteenth Holiday) \nJuneteenth Festival: Celebrating American Freedom & Heritage\, noon to 5 p.m.\, Lakeview’s Russell Arena. This vibrant festival will feature live performances\, youth activities\, workshops\, vendors and cultural presentations. \nFriday\, June 20 \nLegacy & Liberation: A Juneteenth Film Night\, 5:30-8:30 p.m.\, Mead Auditorium in The Science Building. A screening of Miss Juneteenth will be followed by a panel discussion reflecting on legacy\, motherhood and Black womanhood.
