A delegation of seven Higashiomi citizens will arrive in Marquette on July 19 and depart on July 29\, 2026\, \nOur seven delegates are the Deputy Mayor\, a Higashiomi City Council member\, Higashiomi City Staff\, members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry\, Higashiomi International Exchange Association\, and Higashiomi citizens. The Marquette Area Sister Cities Partnership Committee is proud to host the events for the Sister City delegation. The Japanese delegation is led by Higashiomi Deputy Mayor Namikawa. Host families are needed to host our seven delegates. Cheryl has completed more than 2\,000 miles of the North Country Trail and looks forward to exploring these beautiful sections with anyone who would like to join her. DESCRIPTION:Thursdays\, August 13 through September 17\, 2026\, from 1:30-3:00 pm EST\, \nIshpeming Senior Center\, 121 Greenwood Street\, Ishpeming.  \n  \nPowerful Tools for Caregivers\, a six-week in-person workshop\, designed for the non-professional\, informal family caregiver\, will be held on Thursdays\, August 13 through September 17\, 2026\, from 1:30-3:00 pm EST\, at the Ishpeming Senior Center\, 121 Greenwood Street\, Ishpeming.  \nResearch studies find high rates of depression and anxiety among caregivers and increased vulnerability to health problems. Caregivers frequently cite restriction of personal activities and social life as problems. In addition\, caregivers often feel a lack of control over events and a sense of powerlessness which can have a significant negative impact on their physical and emotional health. The Powerful Tools for Caregivers program will provide caregivers tools to help reduce stress and increase relaxation\, make tough decisions\, reduce guilt\, anger and depression\, communicate effectively\, set goals and problem solve\, and take better care of themselves while caring for a relative or friend. Caregivers will benefit from the workshop whether they are helping a parent\, spouse\, or friend living at home\, in long-term care or across the country. The workshop focuses on self-care for the caregiver\, not on specific diseases or hands-on caregiving. \nPowerful Tools for Caregivers is offered by Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP) in partnership with Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice. There is no charge for this workshop\, but registration is required.
