SUMMARY:Trash To Treasure Weekend
DESCRIPTION:When: 2026.09.11-13 \nWhere: City of Marquette \nCity of Marquette residents are invited and encouraged to participate in the communitywide “Trash to Treasure Weekend” beginning Friday\, September 11 through Sunday\, September 13. The purpose of the program is to provide a venue for the recycling of reusable household items such as furniture\, lamps\, electronics and other working household items. The program is designed to increase awareness of recycling by creating an alternative means of reusing items that would otherwise end up in the landfill.  \n  \nGuidelines: Residents can place reusable/serviceable items in front of their house on the curb no earlier than 5:00 p.m. Friday\, September 11. Unclaimed items must be removed from the curb no later than 5:00 p.m. Sunday\, September 13. Removal of items will be strictly enforced in accordance with Section 22.33 of the City’s Nuisance Ordinance: It shall be unlawful for any person to accumulate rubbish or any articles or junk\, except as may be necessary for construction work or normal course of a business. This Public Service Announcement will serve as notice that items left at the curb will be picked up by the Public Works Department and invoiced to the property owner on a time\, material\, and disposal fee basis. College students are encouraged to participate in the treasure hunt in that they may find items which will be useful to them in their dormitory or apartment.  \n  \nExamples of items that can be recycled include lamps\, tables\, chairs\, dishes\, etc. Please\, no rubbish. Rubbish is defined to mean anything that does not work\, is not clean and is not serviceable.  \n  \nDepositing unwanted items is prohibited.  \n  \nIt is suggested that residents remove lawn ornaments and other wanted items to avoid mistaken identity.

SUMMARY:Marquette Regional History Center presents: Houses on the Move: The Neighborhood Before MGH
DESCRIPTION:When: Wednesday\, September 16\, 1:30 p.m. \nWhere: Marquette Regional History Center \nBefore there was Marquette General Hospital (MGH) in north Marquette\, there was a vibrant neighborhood full of family homes near St. Luke’s Hospital. After identifying where 23 of these homes now rest\, Cheryl Anderegg along with Jack Deo and others will tell the stories of many families who lived in these 1920-30s homes.. Photographs\, maps\, and research will bring together this unique tale of our community. Free daytime program as part of our popular Senior Support Series.  For more info visit marquettehistory.org or call 906.226.3571.

SUMMARY:Powerful Tools for Caregivers Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Thursdays\, August 13 through September 17\, 2026\, from 1:30-3:00 pm EST\, \nIshpeming Senior Center\, 121 Greenwood Street\, Ishpeming.  \n  \nPowerful Tools for Caregivers\, a six-week in-person workshop\, designed for the non-professional\, informal family caregiver\, will be held on Thursdays\, August 13 through September 17\, 2026\, from 1:30-3:00 pm EST\, at the Ishpeming Senior Center\, 121 Greenwood Street\, Ishpeming.  \nResearch studies find high rates of depression and anxiety among caregivers and increased vulnerability to health problems. Caregivers frequently cite restriction of personal activities and social life as problems. In addition\, caregivers often feel a lack of control over events and a sense of powerlessness which can have a significant negative impact on their physical and emotional health. The Powerful Tools for Caregivers program will provide caregivers tools to help reduce stress and increase relaxation\, make tough decisions\, reduce guilt\, anger and depression\, communicate effectively\, set goals and problem solve\, and take better care of themselves while caring for a relative or friend. Caregivers will benefit from the workshop whether they are helping a parent\, spouse\, or friend living at home\, in long-term care or across the country. The workshop focuses on self-care for the caregiver\, not on specific diseases or hands-on caregiving. \nPowerful Tools for Caregivers is offered by Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP) in partnership with Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice. There is no charge for this workshop\, but registration is required. Class size is limited. \nTo register\, visit www.upcap.org (click on Events) or call 2-1-1 Monday through Friday\, 8 am to 4 pm for assistance. Registration ends when the class is full or on August 3. \n
