SUMMARY:Caregiver Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Retreat 2026 Flyer \n  \nUpper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP) will host a Caregiver Retreat on Saturday\, September 26\, 9:45 am-5:00 pm Central Time (10:45 am – 6:00 pm Eastern) at Fortune Lake Camp\, 138 Fortune Lake Camp Road\, Crystal Falls\, Michigan. \nThis daylong event is designed to provide rest and rejuvenation for non-professional family caregivers from the Upper Peninsula. The day will include structured activities such as a nature hike\, an art project and yoga. Other activities such as a caregiver support group meeting\, a cooking and nutrition class\, and time at the waterfront. In addition\, participants can enjoy a chair massage from a professional massage therapist if they like. Activities will be lead by Registered Dietitian and Certified Yoga Instructor Pam Roose from Inspiring Roots\, and assisted by Della Juliano\, Health and Caregiver Educator\, from UPCAP. \nThis Caregiver Retreat will provide the opportunity for family caregivers to rest\, relax and share their caregiving experiences with others who have similar circumstances. Taking time off from caregiving to rest and rejuvenate is a necessity for caregivers to decrease stress and increase good health and wellbeing. \nHarvard Health.edu states: “Taking a break can help you restore a sense of who you are\, and allow you to bring your ‘best self’ back to your role as a caregiver.” \nThe cost for the Caregiver Retreat is $30 (non-refundable) and includes lunch and a chair massage. Register at www.upcap.org and click on Events or dial 2-1-1 for assistance. Registration ends September 11. Space is limited. \nThis event is for non-professional family caregivers only.

SUMMARY:Powerful Tools for Caregivers Training Six-Week Online Workshop
DESCRIPTION:When: Thursdays\, October 15 through November 19\, from 1:30 – 3:00 pm \nWhere: Zoom \n  \nPowerful Tools for Caregivers\, a six-week online workshop\, designed for the non-professional\, informal family caregiver\, will be held on Thursdays\, October 15 through November 19\, from 1:30 – 3:00 pm (Eastern) via Zoom. \nResearch studies find high rates of depression and anxiety among caregivers and increased vulnerability to health problems. Caregivers frequently cite restriction of personal activities and social life as problems. In addition\, caregivers often feel a lack of control over events and a sense of powerlessness which can have a significant negative impact on their physical and emotional health. The Powerful Tools for Caregivers program will provide caregivers tools to help reduce stress and increase relaxation\, make tough decisions\, reduce guilt\, anger and depression\, communicate effectively\, set goals and problem solve\, and take better care of themselves while caring for a relative or friend. Caregivers will benefit from the workshop whether they are helping a parent\, spouse\, or friend living at home\, in long-term care or across the country. The workshop focuses on self-care for the caregiver\, not on specific diseases or hands-on caregiving. \nPowerful Tools for Caregivers is offered by Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP) in partnership with Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice. There is no charge for this workshop\, but registration is required. Class size is limited. Registration ends when the class is full or on September 25. \nTo register\, visit www.upcap.org (click on Events) or call 2-1-1 Monday through Friday\, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for assistance.
