DESCRIPTION:Thursdays\, August 13 through September 17\, 2026\, from 1:30-3:00 pm EST\, \nIshpeming Senior Center\, 121 Greenwood Street\, Ishpeming.  \n  \nPowerful Tools for Caregivers\, a six-week in-person workshop\, designed for the non-professional\, informal family caregiver\, will be held on Thursdays\, August 13 through September 17\, 2026\, from 1:30-3:00 pm EST\, at the Ishpeming Senior Center\, 121 Greenwood Street\, Ishpeming.  \nResearch studies find high rates of depression and anxiety among caregivers and increased vulnerability to health problems. Caregivers frequently cite restriction of personal activities and social life as problems. In addition\, caregivers often feel a lack of control over events and a sense of powerlessness which can have a significant negative impact on their physical and emotional health. The Powerful Tools for Caregivers program will provide caregivers tools to help reduce stress and increase relaxation\, make tough decisions\, reduce guilt\, anger and depression\, communicate effectively\, set goals and problem solve\, and take better care of themselves while caring for a relative or friend. Caregivers will benefit from the workshop whether they are helping a parent\, spouse\, or friend living at home\, in long-term care or across the country. The workshop focuses on self-care for the caregiver\, not on specific diseases or hands-on caregiving. \nPowerful Tools for Caregivers is offered by Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP) in partnership with Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice. There is no charge for this workshop\, but registration is required. DESCRIPTION:Thursdays\, August 13 through September 17\, 2026\, from 1:30-3:00 pm EST\, \nIshpeming Senior Center\, 121 Greenwood Street\, Ishpeming.  \n  \nPowerful Tools for Caregivers\, a six-week in-person workshop\, designed for the non-professional\, informal family caregiver\, will be held on Thursdays\, August 13 through September 17\, 2026\, from 1:30-3:00 pm EST\, at the Ishpeming Senior Center\, 121 Greenwood Street\, Ishpeming.  \nResearch studies find high rates of depression and anxiety among caregivers and increased vulnerability to health problems. Caregivers frequently cite restriction of personal activities and social life as problems. In addition\, caregivers often feel a lack of control over events and a sense of powerlessness which can have a significant negative impact on their physical and emotional health. The Powerful Tools for Caregivers program will provide caregivers tools to help reduce stress and increase relaxation\, make tough decisions\, reduce guilt\, anger and depression\, communicate effectively\, set goals and problem solve\, and take better care of themselves while caring for a relative or friend. Caregivers will benefit from the workshop whether they are helping a parent\, spouse\, or friend living at home\, in long-term care or across the country. The workshop focuses on self-care for the caregiver\, not on specific diseases or hands-on caregiving. \nPowerful Tools for Caregivers is offered by Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP) in partnership with Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice. There is no charge for this workshop\, but registration is required. Class size is limited. \nTo register\, visit www.upcap.org (click on Events) or call 2-1-1 Monday through Friday\, 8 am to 4 pm for assistance. DESCRIPTION:Date: September 5\, 2026 \nThe Marquette Marathon is run on a point-to-point course through beautiful Marquette County\, located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The start is in the heart of the small iron mining town\, Ishpeming\, which means “heaven” in Ojibwa. The course then follows the Iron Ore Heritage Trail down into Marquette. The Marquette Marathon will finish at the Superior Dome. \nThe Marquette Marathon has a history dating back to the late 1970’s. The course has changed a few times over the years\, with the race now finishing at the Superior Dome. 7:30 AM start. \nThe Marquette Half Marathon has become the race to run if you’re looking for that new PR! The course is blazing fast\, and certified\, with exceptional on-course support! \nThe half-marathon course follows the Iron Ore Heritage Trail down into Marquette and will finish at the Superior Dome. 9 AM start. \n

DESCRIPTION:Quilt Submissions Needed For Display \nApplications for submissions -Due By September 1ST\, 2026 \nVisit Website For Appications And Details \nOpen to all community members for submissions \n \n \nContacts: \nJulie Higbie  jhigbie@nmu.edu  906-361-1537 \nHeather Spring  cmheatherspring@yahoo.com  478-235-1579 \nWebsite www.marquettequilters.org \n(Members available for interview and/or media spots to help promote quilt submissions and overall event) \nThe Marquette County Quilters Association (MCQA) is proud to present the bi- annual 2026 Autumn Comforts Quilt Show at Ojibwa Casino\, Marquette\, MI. \nThis event will be held Saturday October 3rd\, 2026\, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday\, October 4th\, 2026\, from 11:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. \nAdmission is: $5.00 \nThere will be over 200 quilts on display along with door prizes\, basket raffles\, and demonstrations. \nQuilters from across the Marquette County region\, as well as those from other areas will be proudly displaying a variety of quilts and related items. A plethora of color and texture will adorn the event. \nMCQA was formed in 1978. The purpose of the Marquette County Quilters association is to foster the appreciation of quilts and the art of quilting among quilters and the public; to increase knowledge of traditional and contemporary techniques of quilting and to provide an encouraging environment for quilters to practice and exchange skills; to serve the community through charitable activities involving quilting; and to educate the public about the significance and history of quilting as an art form and as an ongoing craft. \nSeveral organizations in the Marquette County area have been recipients of quilts or other hand sewn items generous given by MCQA members. Centered in Marquette\, our members hail from several counties in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Meetings are held at 6:30 p.m.\, the first Wednesday of each month (except July and August)\, at the Peter White Public Library’s Community Room. \nMCQA has worked as a team to make a beautiful quilt “Northern Lights “that measures (108 x108) and will be raffled with the winner being announced on Oct. 5th\, 2026\, at Peter White Library at 3:00 pm. The winner need not be present to win. \nRaffle tickets are available to purchase from MCQA Guild members or at the SHOW on Saturday and Sunday. All proceeds from the raffle are used to facilitate this year’s Autumn Comforts Quilt Show as well as the many community services the group provides. \n
