SUMMARY:Houghton - Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
DESCRIPTION:Copper Shores Outreach & Education is hosting a free two-day Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) on Monday\, October 28 and Tuesday\, October 29 at the MUB Alumni Lounge on Michigan Tech’s campus. This two day workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day\, teaching people the skills the help prevent suicide\, and how to intervene to help keep someone safe from suicide. \n  \nThose who partake in ASIST include both trained professionals and members of the general public. People do not need to have any training in suicide prevention or intervention prior to attending ASIST. With ASIST\, people can provide guidance and suicide first-aid to a person with thoughts of suicide in ways that meet their individual safety needs\, as well as identify the key elements of an effective suicide safety plan and the actions required to implement it. \n  \nThis training is open to the public\, and provided at no cost. DESCRIPTION:Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) will host two open house events to demonstrate how it plans to meet Michigan’s new clean energy standards. At these events\, UPPCO will provide an update on the company’s current renewable generation projects and walk guests through its Integrated Resource Plan\, or IRP. An IRP is a comprehensive plan which outlines an electric utility’s future electric generation resource strategy. An IRP seeks to answer the question of\nhow an electric utility may provide reliable\, cost-effective electric service to its customers over the next twenty (20) years while addressing various risks and uncertainties. \nThe Energy Transition Open Houses will be held at two locations from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time on the following dates: \nOctober 22: River Rock Lanes\, 1011 N Rd.\, Ishpeming\, MI\nOctober 23: Finnish American Heritage Center\, 435 Quincy St.\, Hancock\, MI \n  \nAccording to Dan Freeborn\, UPPCO’s Manager of Communications and External Affairs\, “Beginning at 6:00 P.M.\, there will be a short presentation that will outline Michigan’s current energy legislation\, UPPCO’s currently planned solar projects\, and a review of our upcoming IRP efforts. Immediately following the presentation\, guests can visit with representatives from UPPCO’s Customer Service\, Energy Efficiency\, Resource Planning and Regulatory departments.
