DESCRIPTION:The Keweenaw is getting a new stage this spring with the debut of Keweenaw’s Got Talent\, a community talent showcase and fundraiser set for Saturday\, April 11\, 2026\, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Rachel Marie Blau Memorial Theater inside the Hancock Community Hub. \nInspired by the energy of America’s Got Talent\, this first-time event will bring together music\, dance\, comedy\, and creative performances from across the region in a wholesome\, family-friendly setting. Proceeds will support the Hancock Community Hub and its mission to keep the space open\, active\, and full of community programming for the Keweenaw. \n\n  \nCALL FOR AUDITIONS \nCommunity members are invited to apply to perform. \n\nWho: Adults\, teens\, and children\nWhat: Singing\, dancing\, comedy\, magic\, instrumental music\, spoken word\, and other family-friendly acts\nWhere: Performances will take place live at the Hancock Community Hub\nHow: Auditions will be accepted via online application with a short video submission.\n\nAuditions application: https://bit.ly/KGT-2026\nJanuary 12\, 2026: Online Audition Submission Opens\nMarch 1\, 2026:Online Audition Submission Closes\nMarch 13\, 2026: Audition Selection Notifications\n\n\n\nSelected performers will be featured in either the Talent Competition (adults and teens) or the Rising Stars Showcase (children and youth). DESCRIPTION:The Keweenaw Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (KUUF) will host a public forum online titled “How to Raise a Citizen (and Why It’s Up to You to Do It)” from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Sunday\, February 8.\n\nLindsey Cormack\, author of How to Raise a Citizen (and Why It’s Up to You to Do It)\, will talk about her book\, which explains how and why parents must help their children to learn about politics and government.\nThe book is a guide for parents and adults on how to teach children about U.S. government and civic engagement\, filling gaps left by formal education. It provides practical strategies for having age-appropriate\, respectful political discussions at home\, explains topics like the Constitution and voting\, and encourages parents to model informed\, curious\, and balanced participation in a democracy. It argues that parents are crucial in raising engaged citizens who can navigate political discourse constructively.\nLindsey Cormack is an associate professor of political science and director of DCinbox at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken\, NJ.\nShe has run DCinbox since 2009\, archiving and providing to the public all official e-newsletters sent by members of Congress. Cormack specializes in American politics. Her research has been published in Political Behavior\, Congress & the Presidency\, American Politics Research\, The Legislative Scholar and many others\, as well as in popular outlets including the New York Times\, The Washington Post\, NBC News\, The Hill and more.\nForums are approximately one hour long.
