SUMMARY:NMU Theatre and Dance presents 'Cupid's Cabaret'
DESCRIPTION:Northern Michigan University Theatre and Dance will present “Cupid’s Cabaret\,” an immersive and potentially interactive performance set at a 1980s high school prom. \n  \nOpening night on Thursday\, Feb. 12\, will be a fundraiser dinner and auction performance for student scholarships. Remaining show-only performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13 and 14\, with a Theatre for All sensory-friendly matinee at 1 p.m. Saturday. All will be held at Marquette’s Ramada Inn Ballroom. \n  \n“Cupid’s Cabaret” is described as a theatrical soiree “packed with big hair\, bigger emotions and all the retro romance you can handle.” Audience members are transported back to the 1980s as the performance unfolds around them\, creating a dynamic experience that blurs the line between performer and spectator. \n  \nThe production follows a variety of characters as they prepare for prom night\, navigate high school relationships and build toward the crowning of prom king and queen. The show incorporates music from the 1980s\, a decade whose sound and style were shaped by the rise of MTV’s launch in 1981. \n  \nTickets for the fundraiser are $100 per person or $700 for a table of eight. They include dinner and an open bar. Some of the auction items up for bid will be: a one-week trip to Orlando; a YMCA membership; an ultimate summer party rental package and DJ; an eight-person\, five-course dinner; and golf packages. \n  \nTicket prices for regular shows are $25 for the general public; $22 for NMU employees\, seniors and military; $15 for youth; and $5 for NMU students. They can be purchased at https://nmu.universitytickets.com/.

The qualifier will be first come first serve. \n\nAfter the Qualifier\, head over to the Carnegie Museum for a special gathering to announce the winners. Riders who advance will join a stacked field competing for cash prizes ($1k Best Stomp\, $2k for Top Male\, and $2k for Top Female) with features designed for flow and speed\, and one of the most electric snowboard event crowds in the Midwest. \n\nJibba Jabba’s main event is on Saturday\, Feb. 14 at 6 p.m. The qualifier will run on a lower-consequence feature that will stay on the course all weekend. After Friday night\, the course will be built up and made more challenging for the pro show\, with added features and increased difficult Jibba Jabba takes place on Huron Street next to Visit Keweenaw’s Welcome Center and is a collaboration between Visit Keweenaw\, the City of Houghton\, and Minne Farms (Jenn + Dustin Reed). \n\nAttendees can expect stadium-style energy with people surrounding the snowboard course from all sides.
