SUMMARY:Free Babysitting Class "Safe Sitter"

Students learn and practice basic first aid\, CPR skills\, and how to help a choking infant and child. \n  \n“The course also emphasizes responsibility\, professionalism and communication with families\, which are valuable life skills that extend beyond babysitting\,” said Johnson. \n  \nSafe Sitter is free to attend\, but registration is required as seats are limited. Space is limited and we do expect this class to be full. Sign up for Safe Sitter by visiting coppershores.org. Registration closes on Wednesday\, February 18\, 2026.

SUMMARY:Jibba Jabba Downtown Houghton
DESCRIPTION:This weekend\, downtown Houghton transforms into a street-style snowboarding arena as Jibba Jabba returns with visiting riders\, regional vendors\, and an electric atmosphere that signals peak winter in the Keweenaw. Friday night features a qualifier to allow more entries into Saturday’s invite-only\, professional-grade urban snowboard competition. \n  \nRiders to Watch: \nCharlie “Chuck Wagon” Vandemark (@_chuckwagon_) is a Houghton local and Mont Ripley rider known for smooth style and technical rail work. A respected name in the local snowboard scene\, he brings hometown energy and creativity to the event. Last year\, he won one of the Best Stomps of the night from Red Bull. \n\nGarrett “Juiccy Jokerr” McKenzie (@juiccyjokerr) is a standout street-style rider known for creative tricks and a strong social following. With a style that translates perfectly to fast-paced\, rider-driven features\, he’s one to keep an eye on during Jibba Jabba. \n  \nErin Alexander (@steezbarb) is a dynamic snowboarder with a growing presence in the snowboarding community\, known for creative riding and standout video content on social media. She’s regularly featured in rail jams and community events across the East Coast and brings both style and energy to this weekend’s competition. \n\nWhat to Expect: \nThe action begins on Friday with the qualifier session just after 4 p.m.\, where 40 riders will be split into two groups to maintain a fast pace and high energy from the start. New this year\, participants will complete an online waiver prior to arrival\, helping streamline check-in and maximize time on the course. Final feature details will be announced once construction is complete. Be sure to watch Jibba Jabba on Instagram to see the link go live. \n\nThe Carnegie Museum joins the celebration with the opening of a new winter sports exhibit on Feb. 13\, offering visitors a chance to explore the region’s deep-rooted snow culture before stepping outside to experience it firsthand. The museum will also feature an awards show to announce riders on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. complete with a donated Keweenaw Brewing Company (KBC) beer keg while supplies last — creating a warm\, lively gathering space for riders and spectators. Head over to the KBC to continue your night\, with snowboard themed movies playing on Friday. \n\n“With it being a mellow feature\, it’s going to push riders to be more creative\,” said Jenn Reed\, Event Organizer and owner of Minnie Farms. “We’re expecting a fast-paced session with 40 riders split into two groups\, so things will move quickly.”

SUMMARY:Houghton Jibba Jabba
DESCRIPTION:Houghton’s Jibba Jabba is shaking things up this winter with the introduction of a Friday Night Qualifier. This gives locals and visitors alike a clear\, performance-based path into Saturday night’s main event. \n\nHistorically\, Jibba Jabba invites only high-caliber snowboarders in the industry. Now\, underdog riders can earn their spot in a fresh way – by putting down their best moves Friday night ahead of Saturday’s competition. 40 people will be able to register on Friday\, Feb. 13 starting at 4 p.m. Helmets are required and all ages are welcome. The qualifier will be first come first serve. \n\nAfter the Qualifier\, head over to the Carnegie Museum for a special gathering to announce the winners. From 6-9 p.m.\, this announcement will take place and then free showings of snowboard movies will play. Keweenaw Brewing Company will also host an event after the Qualifier\, live-streaming the announcement from Carnegie and the same movies. Pick your favorite spot! \n\n“This was an intentional change\,” said Jenn Reed\, event organizer. “The qualifier keeps things fair and exciting to those who haven’t participated before. It’s giving more riders who love Jibba Jabba chance to be part of the main show on Saturday\, Feb. 14.” \n\nThe addition of the qualifier opens the door to more participation and welcomes emerging riders while preserving the high-energy\, high-level riding that Jibba Jabba is known for. Riders who advance will join a stacked field competing for cash prizes ($1k Best Stomp\, $2k for Top Male\, and $2k for Top Female) with features designed for flow and speed\, and one of the most electric snowboard event crowds in the Midwest. \n\nJibba Jabba’s main event is on Saturday\, Feb. 14 at 6 p.m. The qualifier will run on a lower-consequence feature that will stay on the course all weekend. After Friday night\, the course will be built up and made more challenging for the pro show\, with added features and increased difficult Jibba Jabba takes place on Huron Street next to Visit Keweenaw’s Welcome Center and is a collaboration between Visit Keweenaw\, the City of Houghton\, and Minne Farms (Jenn + Dustin Reed). \n\nAttendees can expect stadium-style energy with people surrounding the snowboard course from all sides. Riders perform only feet away from the sidelines\, allowing you to feel the excitement. \n\nFriday night will still deliver the classic Jibba Jabba experience\, giving people two nights of snowboard insanity and impressive feats of athleticism.

SUMMARY:NMU Theatre and Dance presents 'Cupid's Cabaret'
DESCRIPTION:Northern Michigan University Theatre and Dance will present “Cupid’s Cabaret\,” an immersive and potentially interactive performance set at a 1980s high school prom. \n  \nOpening night on Thursday\, Feb. 12\, will be a fundraiser dinner and auction performance for student scholarships. All will be held at Marquette’s Ramada Inn Ballroom. \n  \n“Cupid’s Cabaret” is described as a theatrical soiree “packed with big hair\, bigger emotions and all the retro romance you can handle.” Audience members are transported back to the 1980s as the performance unfolds around them\, creating a dynamic experience that blurs the line between performer and spectator. \n  \nThe production follows a variety of characters as they prepare for prom night\, navigate high school relationships and build toward the crowning of prom king and queen. The show incorporates music from the 1980s\, a decade whose sound and style were shaped by the rise of MTV’s launch in 1981. \n  \nTickets for the fundraiser are $100 per person or $700 for a table of eight. They include dinner and an open bar. Some of the auction items up for bid will be: a one-week trip to Orlando; a YMCA membership; an ultimate summer party rental package and DJ; an eight-person\, five-course dinner; and golf packages. \n  \nTicket prices for regular shows are $25 for the general public; $22 for NMU employees\, seniors and military; $15 for youth; and $5 for NMU students.
