DESCRIPTION:Northern Michigan University Theatre and Dance will host its Wildcat Performing Arts Academy Summer Dance Intensive for high school intermediate- to advanced-level dancers July 13-27. Participants will attend sessions led by prominent industry professionals from Giordano Dance Chicago\, Ballet Project OC of California\, a former Broadway touring company member and others. They will also perform alongside the two visiting ensembles and NMU CO/LAB Dance Company during the North Coast Dance Festival\, which consists of a masterclass and two public performances.\nThe first week of the summer intensive will feature day-long classes to hone dance skills. Week two will include sessions led by the following guest instructors: Nan Giordano\, artistic director\, Giordano Dance Chicago\, leading a Giordano Jazz class; Ally Helman\, artistic director\, Ballet Project OC\, teaching Balanchine-style ballet technique; Jimena Flores Sanchez\, former company member\, Moulin Rouge National Tour\, offering a Moulin Rouge dance workshop; Adina Belanger\, choreographer for Just for Kix and new owner of Dawn Dott Dance Studios in Marquette; and Meg Schneider\, Certified Athletic Trainer for the Radio City Rockettes\, Chicago Bulls LuvaBulls\, and 312 Crew. The two-week program will culminate in an hour-long showcase performance. SUMMARY:Houghton - A Good Trouble Rally
DESCRIPTION:A Good Trouble Rally is scheduled from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Thursday\, July 17th\, by Keweenaw Indivisible\, and we are joining them.   Please bring a water bottle\, dress appropriately for the weather\, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. And spread the word! \n\nIn support of the Good Trouble Rally at Houghton’s Veterans Park at 4:00 pm\, a MotorMarch is being staged.  Meet at the Keweenaw Unitarian Universalist Fellowship parking lot at 3 pm to decorate your car.  Participants will decorate their private vehicles with signs or slogans drawn on side windows with “windshield markers.” We encourage the display of as many American flags as possible. Vehicles will then circulate repeatedly through downtown Houghton\, blending with normal traffic flows and passing the rally site. The MotorMarch provides an excellent opportunity for participants to engage in the rally without having to navigate parking\, street crossings\, and the challenging sloping terrain of the rally location. It will significantly extend the rally’s impact. \nGood Trouble Lives On is a national day of nonviolent action in response to the attacks on our civil and human rights posed by the Trump administration\, and to remind them that in America\, power lies with the people. On July 17\, the anniversary of Congressman John Lewis’s passing\, we’re taking action across the country to defend our democracy and carry forward his legacy of Good Trouble. From voter suppression bills like the SAVE Act to the criminalization of protest\, the Trump administration is launching a full-scale attack on our civil and human rights. But we know the truth: in America\, the power lies with the people\, and we’re rising to prove it. This is more than a protest; it’s a moral reckoning. A continuation of the movement Lewis helped lead\, and a new front in the struggle for freedom. \n**Please note:** A core principle behind our Good Trouble Lives On actions is a commitment to nonviolence in all we do. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

SUMMARY:World Walleye Championship Returns to Gladstone: A Premier Fishing Event with Community Impact
DESCRIPTION:The City of Gladstone is set to host the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit (MWC) Qualifier on July 18 and 19\, marking a significant event for both the local community and competitive fishing enthusiasts. It is organized in partnership with and sponsored by the Delta County Chamber of Commerce\, the City of Gladstone\, Hannahville Indian Community\, the Bays de Noc Sportsfishermen\, and Visit Escanaba. The televised catch-and-release fishing tournament is expected to draw professional anglers\, media attention\, and economic benefits to the area. \nThe competitive fishing tournament takes place over two days – Friday\, July 18 and Saturday\, July 19. Anglers are released at 7 a.m. each day from Gladstone’s Van Cleve Park boat launch\, located at 1224 Lake Shore Drive\, and are expected to return back to the launch at the end of each day to weigh the day’s catch. \nSpectators are encouraged to attend the free\, family-friendly event daily at 3 p.m. as each two-person team showcases their fish basket live on stage in Van Cleve Park. \nThe event is limited to Michigan waters only and emphasizes “catch and release” conservation\, with the MWC staff members and Great Lakes Sportsfishermen managing fish care and release. Each team is limited to weighing only five walleye each day. SUMMARY:World Walleye Championship Returns to Gladstone: A Premier Fishing Event with Community Impact
DESCRIPTION:The City of Gladstone is set to host the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit (MWC) Qualifier on July 18 and 19\, marking a significant event for both the local community and competitive fishing enthusiasts. It is organized in partnership with and sponsored by the Delta County Chamber of Commerce\, the City of Gladstone\, Hannahville Indian Community\, the Bays de Noc Sportsfishermen\, and Visit Escanaba. The televised catch-and-release fishing tournament is expected to draw professional anglers\, media attention\, and economic benefits to the area. \nThe competitive fishing tournament takes place over two days – Friday\, July 18 and Saturday\, July 19. Anglers are released at 7 a.m. each day from Gladstone’s Van Cleve Park boat launch\, located at 1224 Lake Shore Drive\, and are expected to return back to the launch at the end of each day to weigh the day’s catch. \nSpectators are encouraged to attend the free\, family-friendly event daily at 3 p.m. as each two-person team showcases their fish basket live on stage in Van Cleve Park. \nThe event is limited to Michigan waters only and emphasizes “catch and release” conservation\, with the MWC staff members and Great Lakes Sportsfishermen managing fish care and release. Each team is limited to weighing only five walleye each day. Each fish must be 15” in length or greater\, with only one fish over 23” allowed per angler. \n“We are proud to sponsor the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit tournament and welcome anglers from across the nation to experience our world-class fishery\,” said Vickie Micheau\, Executive Director of the Delta Chamber of Commerce. “Events like this not only highlight the incredible natural resources we have here in our waterfront community but also provide a strong economic boost to our local businesses—from hotels and restaurants to bait shops and gas stations. DESCRIPTION:Northern Michigan University Theatre and Dance will host its Wildcat Performing Arts Academy Summer Dance Intensive for high school intermediate- to advanced-level dancers July 13-27. Participants will attend sessions led by prominent industry professionals from Giordano Dance Chicago\, Ballet Project OC of California\, a former Broadway touring company member and others. They will also perform alongside the two visiting ensembles and NMU CO/LAB Dance Company during the North Coast Dance Festival\, which consists of a masterclass and two public performances.\nThe first week of the summer intensive will feature day-long classes to hone dance skills. Week two will include sessions led by the following guest instructors: Nan Giordano\, artistic director\, Giordano Dance Chicago\, leading a Giordano Jazz class; Ally Helman\, artistic director\, Ballet Project OC\, teaching Balanchine-style ballet technique; Jimena Flores Sanchez\, former company member\, Moulin Rouge National Tour\, offering a Moulin Rouge dance workshop; Adina Belanger\, choreographer for Just for Kix and new owner of Dawn Dott Dance Studios in Marquette; and Meg Schneider\, Certified Athletic Trainer for the Radio City Rockettes\, Chicago Bulls LuvaBulls\, and 312 Crew.
