SUMMARY:Powerful Tools for Caregivers Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Powerful Tools for Caregivers\, a six-week workshop\, designed for the non-professional\, informal family caregiver\, will be held on Thursdays\, August 21 – September 25th\, 1:00 – 2:30 pm at the Negaunee Senior Center\, 410 Jackson Street\, Negaunee.\n\nResearch studies find high rates of depression and anxiety among caregivers and increased vulnerability to health problems. Caregivers frequently cite restriction of personal activities and social life as problems. In addition\, caregivers often feel a lack of control over events and a sense of powerlessness which can have a significant negative impact on their physical and emotional health. The Powerful Tools for Caregivers program will provide caregivers tools to help reduce stress and increase relaxation\, make tough decisions\, reduce guilt\, anger and depression\, communicate effectively\, set goals and problem solve\, and take better care of themselves while caring for a relative or friend. Caregivers will benefit from the workshop whether they are helping a parent\, spouse\, or friend living at home\, in long-term care or across the country. The workshop focuses on self-care for the caregiver\, not on specific diseases or hands-on caregiver.\n\nPowerful Tools for Caregivers is offered by Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP) in partnership with Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.\nThere is no charge for this workshop\, but registration is required.\nClass size is limited.\nRegistration ends when the class is full or on August 8.\nTo register\, visit www.upcap.org (click on Events) or call 2-1-1 Monday through Friday\, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for assistance.\n  \nPTC flyer w LSH in person 082125-092525

DESCRIPTION:September is Library Card Sign-up Month! \n(ISHPEMING\, MI) – This September\, the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library invites you to celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month and discover how a single card can open the door to endless opportunities. Today’s libraries connect communities to information\, inspiration\, and each other. Whether you’re diving into a new hobby\, searching for your next great read\, brushing up on tech skills\, or helping your child succeed in school\, it all starts with a library card. Getting a library card is free\, easy\, and empowering. \nLibrary cards for the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library are available for free to residents living within the City of Ishpeming and surrounding townships including: Champion\, Ely\, Humboldt\, Ishpeming\, and Tilden townships. Throughout the month of September\, the library will continue to offer an expansive lineup of programs. SUMMARY:Wildcat Theatre Follies Sept. 4-6
DESCRIPTION:Northern Michigan University Theatre and Dance will host its annual Wildcat Theatre Follies Thursday-Saturday\, Sept. 4-6\, in the Panowski Black Box Theatre. The event will showcase a variety of creative performances by freshmen and sophomores in the program\, including songs\, scenes\, monologues and dance pieces.\nThe show will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday\, with an additional 1 p.m. Theater for All sensory-friendly matinee on Saturday.\n“This is great way to introduce students to the community and their colleagues right away and hit the ground running so they are prepared for the rest of the season and understand how rehearsals work for this department\,” said Kaitlyn Frotton\, who is directing the show with Kristen Ludwig. “The sophomores are given an opportunity to mentor the freshmen\, providing them with fast friends they can look up to and who will help guide them through their first year and set them up for success for the rest of their career here.”\nThis year\, NMU Theatre and Dance held a bootcamp for 64 freshmen and transfer students\, it’s largest incoming class ever\, said Ludwig. The students arrived from Texas\, Alaska\, Kentucky\, Maryland and Oklahoma\, in addition to Great Lakes region states. The Wildcat Theatre Follies also has a new format\, with four performances instead of two.\n“We are in the Panowski Black Box Theatre\, which is set up ‘in the round’ for a more immersive experience\, for the first act\,” Ludwig said. “The second act takes us out into a tent behind the Black Box\, which has been transformed by our tech and design students to embody a reception/party vibe. For all evening performances\, there will be a cash bar and open dessert table. This will create a beautiful bookend\, both for our season\, opening with this freshfolk/sophomore showcase and closing with our senior showcase\, and for our students’ experience. They get to come in with a bang and leave with a bang!”\nTickets to the Wildcat Theatre Follies are $25 for the general public\, $22 for NMU staff\, seniors and military\, $15 for youth\, and $5 for NMU students. They can be purchased in advance at NMU ticket outlets in the Superior Dome or Bookstore\, or online at nmu.universitytickets.com.

SUMMARY:Powerful Tools for Caregivers Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Powerful Tools for Caregivers\, a six-week workshop\, designed for the non-professional\, informal family caregiver\, will be held on Thursdays\, August 21 – September 25th\, 1:00 – 2:30 pm at the Negaunee Senior Center\, 410 Jackson Street\, Negaunee.\nResearch studies find high rates of depression and anxiety among caregivers and increased vulnerability to health problems. The workshop focuses on self-care for the caregiver\, not on specific diseases or hands-on care-giving.\nPowerful Tools for Caregivers is offered by Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP) in partnership with Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice. There is no charge for this workshop\, but registration is required. Class size is limited. Registration ends when the class is full or on August 8.\nTo register\, visit www.upcap.org (click on Events) or call 2-1-1 Monday through Friday\, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for assistance.
