Ishpeming Organizations Team Up to Host Inaugural Tree Planting Event
ISHPEMING, MI. – Several Ishpeming organizations are joining forces to host the community’s inaugural fruit and nut tree planting event on Saturday, May 24. The event is organized by the Ishpeming Lions Club with support from Partridge Creek Farm and Partridge Creek Compost.
Open to Ishpeming residents, the event will feature two sessions on the same day:
- Morning Session: 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Partridge Creek Farm’s community site, located at 550 Cleveland Ave., Ishpeming
- Afternoon Session: 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. next to the Cliffs Shaft Mining Museum at 501 W Euclid St, Ishpeming
Attendees are encouraged to participate in one or more of the over ten educational demonstrations taking place during each session. Afterward, participating Ishpeming residents will be invited to take home one to three fruit or nut trees, along with materials to help protect and care for them.
Participation is free, and donations are welcome to help sustain the event for future years.
“This event is part of an effort to provide Ishpeming residents the opportunity to cultivate free, local, healthy food for their families and communities,” said Keats Dormont, event organizer and Education Coordinator at Partridge Creek Farm. “It’s a community movement aimed at addressing long-term food insecurity in our region.”
