WHAT:

MiABLE, the Michigan Department of Treasury’s disability savings program, will make its first Upper Peninsula stop July 22 on a statewide roadshow and enrollment awareness campaign. Hosted by UP SAIL, the event comes just days before the 35th anniversary of the signing into law of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990. The historic civil rights law protects the rights of people with disabilities. Tuesday’s event provides a valuable opportunity for individuals with disabilities, their families and advocates to learn about and enroll in the MiABLE savings program. MiABLE enables individuals with disabilities to save money without impacting eligibility for critical assistance programs. Attendees will gain insights from account owners and experts on the benefits of MiABLE and the financial empowerment it offers.

WHY:

This event is part of MiABLE’s outreach initiative to raise awareness and increase program enrollment, including among an estimated 4,500 U.P. residents. By bringing these sessions to communities across Michigan, MiABLE empowers individuals with disabilities and their families with the tools they need for financial security and independence.

Media opportunities:

  • Interviews with MiABLE account owners and disability advocates.
  • Insights from financial and policy experts on how MiABLE works.
  • Personal stories on how MiABLE is making a difference in people’s lives.
