The Great Bear Chase
The Great Bear Chase will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
The 46th Great Bear Chase cross country ski event is slated for March 7, 2026. This longstanding community event is held in Calumet, Michigan, with more than 800 racers taking part each year. Roughly 85% of the racers come from out of the area – including 67% from out of state – to enjoy the Copper Country. This is an economic impact of over $700,000 annually.
There are so many ways to take part in this great event:
Sponsor – sponsor the GBC, which serves as one of the main fundraisers for the Swedetown Trail system. Your sponsorship helps ensure the success of the event. Note that sponsorship must be confirmed by December 15 to include all guaranteed recognition for the 2026 race. Sponsorship details
Volunteer – Volunteer for one of over 100 positions on race day or leading up to the race. Choose from aid stations that your organization can assist with, to registration, the banquet and everything in between!
Ski – Participate in one of the many races, with several different distances to choose from.
- 53K or 20K Skiathlon
- 53K, 24K, or 10K Freestyle or Classic
- 3 or 6 K Sit- Ski
- Junior Bear Chase races of 1K, 2k or 4K. All FREE thanks to a generous sponsor
