The DeVos Art Museum at Northern Michigan University is hosting a new exhibit titled “SAME AS NEVER ” through Dec. 15. Artists Piper Hill, Zerek Kempf and Shori Sims consider time, bodies and architecture as sites of resistance and re-imagination. The exhibit offers an immersive art experience through both physical and digital mediums that aims to provoke, move, amuse, and shake its audience. Artist Reception: Thursday, December 4, 6:30-7:30pm December 1, 2025 – January 28, 2026   HANCOCK, MI – The Finlandia Art Gallery and Finlandia Foundation National (FFN) are pleased to present the Friends of Finland Youth Exhibition featuring the work of elementary and high school students from three states.   A reception for the artists will take place on Thursday, December 4 from 6:30-7:30pm and will include hands-on activities for young people. Northern Michigan University will mark the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, Jan. 19, with three activities: a luncheon with keynote speaker Charlita Anderson White, a 1983 NMU alumna and retired magistrate of the Lorain County Domestic and Juvenile Court in Ohio; an early-access, curated tour of “Speaking Volumes: Transforming Hate”—the first national art exhibition hosted by NMU’s Devos Art Museum; and hands-on service projects.   The luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. will feature a menu of fried chicken, shrimp and grits, mac and cheese, collard greens, potato salad, cornbread and sweet potato pie.
