Northern Michigan University Alumni Relations will host a Northern Now digital event for alumni and friends that features a virtual cooking segment with students in NMU’s hospitality leadership program, under the guidance of instructor/chef and 2010 alumna Alden MacDonald. The segment will be available at 7 p.m. EST Wednesday, Nov. 13. Students will prepare dishes that represent them as culinarians, showcasing skills they’ve learned throughout their educational journey at Northern. They will be cooking inside the state-of-the-art kitchen in the Northern Center – the home for the NMU hospitality leadership program – and guests will get a behind-the-scenes look at the facility virtually. Silver Creek Church and Silver Creek Thrift are partnering with Feeding America West Michigan to host a Feeding America Mobile Food Pantry on Thursday, November 14. The distribution of food will begin at 10:00am and continue while supplies last or until 11:30am. Food will be available for approximately 550 families. Due to changes with Feeding America West Michigan, proxy pickup will be limited.. This will be a drive-thru event with directions given by parking lot attendants. NMUDoIt, a student theater group established early this year at Northern Michigan University, will present its first full-length production—the musical The Last Five Years—at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14 through Saturday, Nov. 16, in the Panowski Black Box Theatre. Church cantor and writer, Melanie Coddington, returns to Marquette from her home in central Virginia to lead a free Women’s Day of Reflection on Saturday, November 16 at St. Michael Catholic Parish in Marquette. The day will begin with continental breakfast at 9 a.m. and conclude at 3:30 p.m. ET. Lunch is included. Women from throughout the Upper Peninsula are invited to attend.
