    Northern Michigan University will host an opportunity to learn about and celebrate “Diwali: Festival of Light” from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, in the Northern Center Ballrooms. This event, organized by various groups on campus, will feature traditional food, music and cultural performances. Diwali is celebrated across South Asia and among the global Indian diaspora. Rooted in Jain, Hindu and Sikh traditions, it symbolizes the light over darkness and good over evil. Many observe the holiday by sharing food, lighting lamps and gathering with family.
