  • NMU Hosts BIPOC Outdoors Summit & Rest Retreat

    Northern Michigan University will host its first BIPOC Outdoors Summit & Rest Retreat Aug. 4-8. While the events are centered on promoting joyful and inclusive nature-based experiences for Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) through outdoor activities, skills workshops, keynote speakers and conversations, all are welcome to participate. Shawnrece Butler, assistant vice president for Opportunity, Empowerment and People, said one of her goals is to inspire more NMU students to immerse themselves in the area’s pristine natural environment to maximize the wellness benefits and nurture a commitment to conservation.     Copper Country Community Band Announces Summer Concert Series The Copper Country Community Band is proud to present a series of five summer concerts across the Keweenaw. Under the direction of Amy Johnson and Micah Erickson, this all-volunteer group of approximately 35 musicians from across the Copper Country will bring audiences a lively mix of marches, classic concert band repertoire, and popular medleys. All concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. – the Monday, August 4th concert has an admission fee of $5 for adults at the door, to help the Keweenaw Heritage Center with their roof replacement. All other concerts are free to attend.
