2025 Michigan Tech Parade of Nation

The community is invited to gather for the 2025 Michigan Tech Parade of Nations on Saturday, September 20, starting at 11:00 a.m. This year’s event promises vibrant cultural displays, music, food, and performances celebrating the many nations represented in the Keweenaw.

 

πŸŽ‰ The Parade

The parade will begin at the J.R. Van Pelt and Opie Library on the Michigan Tech campus. Marchers will travel down College Avenue and Shelden Avenue through downtown Houghton, passing in front of the Ambassador Restaurant, before looping back along Lakeshore Drive and concluding at the Dee Stadium.

 

🎢 Entertainment at the Dee After the parade, the celebration continues indoors at the Dee with live cultural performances, music, and dance. This year’s lineup includes:

● 12:00–12:10 PM β€” MTU Pep Band

● 12:10–12:15 PM β€” Welcome & Intro

● 12:15–12:30 PM β€” Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Dance & Music

● 12:45–1:00 PM β€” Kivajat Finnish Dancers

● 1:10–1:25 PM β€” Husky Tae Kwon Do & Keweenaw Korean Martial Arts

● 1:30–1:40 PM β€” Celtic Music

● 1:35–1:45 PM β€” Latin Dances in Houghton

● 1:55–2:05 PM β€” Indian Student Association Dance & Music

 

🍴 Multicultural Food Festival (Cash Only) Inside the Dee, sample authentic international dishes prepared by student and community organizations. This year’s menu features:

● Indian Students Association β€” Rice with Chicken Masala or Paneer/Aloo Masala (Vegetarian Option)

● Bangladeshi Student Association β€” Pulao rice plates with vegetables or halal chicken, carrot halwa, and combo meals

● Iranian Community β€” Baklava ● Nepalese Student Organization β€” Momos, potato salad, and homemade chutneys

● Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers β€” Tacos, nachos, fresas con crema, and horchata

● German Club at MTU β€” Bratwurst in a bun, add sauerkraut

● Society of Asian Scientists & Engineers β€” Lamb skewers

● African Students Organization β€” Ghana jollof, Nigerian fried rice, and Zimbabwean rice with peanut butter

● Muslim Students Association β€” A full plate: chaat starter, rice with chicken, and gulab jamun dessert
