The regular monthly meeting of the Marquette County Board of Health will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at 6:00 pm. The meeting will take place in Room 231 of the Henry A. Skewis Annex, Marquette County Courthouse, Marquette.
Join historian and author Jim Paquette on a visit to the camp sites of Negaunee’s very first miners, the ancient people who once quarried the local Ajibik quartzite deposits on the northeast end of the lake thousands of years ago. We will follow the timeworn footpath along the north lakeshore. It will be approximately a two-mile hike on uneven terrain and hills and is considered a moderate to difficult hike. Powerful Tools for Caregivers, a six-week workshop, designed for the non-professional, informal family caregiver, will be held on Thursdays, August 21 – September 25th, 1:00 – 2:30 pm at the Negaunee Senior Center, 410 Jackson Street, Negaunee. Research studies find high rates of depression and anxiety among caregivers and increased vulnerability to health problems. Caregivers frequently cite restriction of personal activities and social life as problems. In addition, caregivers often feel a lack of control over events and a sense of powerlessness which can have a significant negative impact on their physical and emotional health. The next general membership meeting of the Marquette Area Chapter of the North Country Trail will be September 2, Tuesday, at 6 p.m. in the Community Room (downstairs) at Peter White Public Library. This month’s program will feature a presentation by John Frick about his hiking adventure in the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. Known for its monasteries, fortresses, welcoming people, and stunning landscapes, Bhutan is a destination few have the chance to experience.
