CHRISTMAS outdoor displays must be engaged from 6pm until 9pm from December 14th through January 1st. Share your holiday spirit and passion for decorating by listing your site on the map! Participate in Halloween, Christmas, or both! There is no fee to participate and no fee for maps. Sites listed on the maps will be entered into drawings for Baraga Bucks!

Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw Counties – The Copper Country Great Start Parent Coalition The Copper Country Great Start Collaborative is gearing up for our annual diaper drive to help provide essential items like diapers and wipes for families in our community. Each year, the Family Coalition collects new unopened packages of diapers and wipes for the Keweenaw Family Resource Center’s (KFRC) Baby Closet. These diapers are given away to families in need throughout the year at no charge. Last year 150 families utilized the Baby Closet and received: 829 packages of diapers and wipes 16 pack-n-plays to provide safe sleep environments 33 |

Houghton Counts Down to New Year’s Eve Chook Drop on Waterfront Pier HOUGHTON, Michigan (Dec. 12, 2024) — The City of Houghton and Visit Keweenaw are counting down to New Year’s Eve – and everyone’s invited! Bundle up in Houghton to ring in 2025 with a Yooper-style Chook Drop on the Portage Canal. Feel the winter magic early or late – families with kids or those who don’t want to stay up can enjoy an early drop at 6:30-7p with appropriate music. Later, Mr. Cesar and the Lucha Tones will play a set from 11:30p-midnight on the pier to lead the night crowd into 2025. Bring your friends |

A People’s March will take place on Saturday, January 18, at 1 p.m. to celebrate our US Constitution and Bill of Rights. In Washington, D.C. and across our country, people will be marching to show support for our democracy. Come march with us! We will gather at Bridgeview Park in Houghton to hear introductory remarks, then walk to the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, carrying flags and signs related to Freedom of Speech, Freedom of the Press, Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Assembly, Separation of Powers, and more. LWV signs and attire are okay. (For visibility, signage with letters at least 5 inches in size

The event: Jam Service Winter Carnival Saturday January 18th 2025 from 2pm-7pm across the road from the JAM SERVICE IN LAKE LINDEN in the old carnival grounds. Open to all the public and there is no charge for the event. There will be the following: – sledding hill – snowmobile rides – hot chocolate – hot dogs and other snacks – bonfire – hangout and have a good time Vendors of any sort are welcome. Jam Service just asks that they contact them just to ensure they have enough room opened up and it is free for them (vendors) as well. |

The rink will host a Grand Opening Ceremony to celebrate the installation of its new boards, a project made possible by the successful fundraising campaign, “Outdoor Recreation for All – Build the Boards Project.” The event will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially unveil the newly revitalized rink. March for Life February 1, 2025 from 12 – 2pm We will leave from the MTU clock tower at 12 pm and march for the Life Outreach Center in Hancock. Please arrive early so we can leave on time. The march will be a peaceful demonstration. We will have signs available or feel free to make your own sign to bring.
