Copper Shores Outreach & Education is hosting a free two-day Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) on Monday, October 28 and Tuesday, October 29 at the MUB Alumni Lounge on Michigan Tech’s campus. This two day workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, teaching people the skills the help prevent suicide, and how to intervene to help keep someone safe from suicide.   Those who partake in ASIST include both trained professionals and members of the general public. Baraga County Holiday Decor Tours   HALLOWEEN outdoor displays must be engaged from 6pm until 9pm from October 21st through October 31st.   CHRISTMAS outdoor displays must be engaged from 6pm until 9pm from December 14th through January 1st.   Share your holiday spirit and passion for decorating by listing your site on the map!  Participate in Halloween, Christmas, or both!  There is no fee to participate and no fee for maps.  Sites listed on the maps will be entered into drawings for Baraga Bucks!

Trout Unlimited volunteer event On October 14th.   Location:   Lower Dam removal project on the East Branch of the Ontonagon River near Kenton, MI Volunteers will be working to restore riparian areas that were recently disturbed by dam removal construction work. Three local gardeners will discuss their battles with invasive plants at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, before the regular Keweenaw Wild Ones meeting on Zoom. In “Vinca Wars,” Tom Oliver, Danna Olsen and Marcia Goodrich will describe the techniques they use to rid their yards of creeping myrtle, also known as vinca or periwinkle. Copper Shores Outreach & Education is hosting free QPR Training on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Portage Lake District Library. The event is free, will last about 90 minutes and is open to anyone in the community over the age of 16.   “Those who complete the training will be able to recognize warning signs of suicide, know how to offer hope, and know how to get help and potentially save a life,” Copper Shores Outreach & Education Prevention Coordinator Lisa Simpson said.   About QPR The training is called Question, Persuade, and Refer
