Baraga County Holiday Decor Tours   HALLOWEEN outdoor displays must be engaged from 6pm until 9pm from October 21st through October 31st.   CHRISTMAS outdoor displays must be engaged from 6pm until 9pm from December 14th through January 1st.   Share your holiday spirit and passion for decorating by listing your site on the map!  Participate in Halloween, Christmas, or both!  There is no fee to participate and no fee for maps.  Sites listed on the maps will be entered into drawings for Baraga Bucks!    

Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw Counties – The Copper Country Great Start Parent Coalition   The Copper Country Great Start Collaborative is gearing up for our annual diaper drive to help provide essential items like diapers and wipes for families in our community. Each year, the Family Coalition collects new unopened packages of diapers and wipes for the Keweenaw Family Resource Center’s (KFRC) Baby Closet. These diapers are given away to families in need throughout the year at no charge.  Last year 150 families utilized the Baby Closet and received:   829 packages of diapers and wipes 16 pack-n-plays to provide safe sleep environments 33

Houghton Counts Down to New Year’s Eve Chook Drop on Waterfront Pier HOUGHTON, Michigan (Dec. 12, 2024) — The City of Houghton and Visit Keweenaw are counting down to New Year’s Eve – and everyone’s invited! Bundle up in Houghton to ring in 2025 with a Yooper-style Chook Drop on the Portage Canal. Feel the winter magic early or late – families with kids or those who don’t want to stay up can enjoy an early drop at 6:30-7p with appropriate music. Later, Mr. Cesar and the Lucha Tones will play a set from 11:30p-midnight on the pier to lead the night crowd into 2025. Bring your friends

Wednesday 8 January 2025 is the monthly meeting of Alfred Erickson Post 186 of the American Legion Hancock.  Social hour 6 PM , 7pm meeting.  Our annual booya lunch will be served after meeting and roll call of the members. Members, and prospective veteran members are invited. This is a change from the usual meeting night of the first Wednesday of the month. Domestic Violence & Local Businesses –Lunch & Learn Event   Baraga County Shelter Home will be the guest presenter at an upcoming Lunch & Learn event on Wednesday, January 15th, hosted by the Baraga County Chamber. Celeste Hendrickson, Executive Director of the Shelter Home, will be sharing information about how local businesses are affected by domestic violence in some surprising ways.  “Unfortunately, society considers the topic of domestic violence as a ‘family matter’ when in fact it is a societal issue that affects local businesses every day in major ways” shares Hendrickson.
