• Copper Country Great Start Family Coalition to Host Annual Diaper Drive

    Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw Counties – The Copper Country Great Start Parent Coalition   The Copper Country Great Start Collaborative is gearing up for our annual diaper drive to help provide essential items like diapers and wipes for families in our community. Each year, the Family Coalition collects new unopened packages of diapers and wipes for the Keweenaw Family Resource Center’s (KFRC) Baby Closet. These diapers are given away to families in need throughout the year at no charge.  Last year 150 families utilized the Baby Closet and received:   829 packages of diapers and wipes 16 pack-n-plays to provide safe sleep environments 33

    A People’s March will take place on Saturday, January 18, at 1 p.m. to celebrate our US Constitution and Bill of Rights. In Washington, D.C. and across our country, people will be marching to show support for our democracy. Come march with us! We will gather at Bridgeview Park in Houghton to hear introductory remarks, then walk to the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, carrying flags and signs related to Freedom of Speech, Freedom of the Press, Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Assembly, Separation of Powers, and more. LWV signs and attire are okay. (For visibility, signage with letters at least 5 inches in size

    The event: Jam Service Winter Carnival Saturday January 18th 2025 from 2pm-7pm across the road from the JAM SERVICE IN LAKE LINDEN in the old carnival grounds. Open to all the public and there is no charge for the event. There will be the following: – sledding hill – snowmobile rides – hot chocolate – hot dogs and other snacks – bonfire – hangout and have a good time Vendors of any sort are welcome. Jam Service  just asks that they contact them just to ensure they have enough room opened up and it is free for them (vendors)  as well.
