    The Houghton County Board of Commissioners and Administration invite all residents to attend a Special Meeting on April 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., located at 401 East Houghton Avenue, 3rd Floor Circuit Court, Houghton, MI 49931, to learn about the designs under consideration for the construction of a new county jail. If approved by the County Board, there will be a proposed millage request to fund the construction of the selected design.     2025 Puppy Parade is April 17 Copper Shores Victim Support is asking the community to save the date for the fifth annual Puppy Parade. The event is Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The Puppy Parade will be held in downtown Hancock, starting at Quincy Green.   Held annually during Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Puppy Parade is a community awareness event and solidarity walk for survivors of sexual assault. Attendees will have to opportunity to gather on Quincy Lawn with their furry friends before the walk and speak to Copper Shores Victim Advocates, as well as several local agencies

    Wilderness Walk Sunday, April 27, 2025 at 3:00 pm Paavola Wetlands Nature Area – Off No. 9 Road in Paavola Location The Wilderness Walks are opportunities to connect with God and each other in an outdoor natural setting.  Each walk has a leader who will guide the walk and stop along the way for readings and reflection.  The walks are appropriate for all ages including families and children. The nature area contains miles of hiking trails suitable for visitors of all accessibility. Everyone is welcome, no religious affiliation is necessary.

    Let’s Eat Free Community Meal from 4:00pm to 5:30pm It’s provided and prepared by the Michigan Tech unit of Circle K and served with the help of the Sigma Rho fraternity of Chassell. Additional funding was also provided by DP Construction which is also based in Chassell.     The event is sponsored by the Let’s Eat organization and the preparation will be done by its original organization members and the Sisters of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Chassell, a long-time supporter of our program. The menu includes Sloppy Joes, one of our all-time favorites, vegetables, dessert and fruit. And, of course, the meal is free to all guests and takes place between 4 and 5:30 pm at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on US-41 on April 27.

  • Houghton – Copper Country Soccer Association and FC Summer Registration

    Copper Country Soccer Association and Houghton FC are reminding families that registration for Summer Recreational Soccer opportunities will close on May 7th. Registration is open for boys and girls born from 2007 to 2021. Both area soccer clubs have combined efforts to offer one recreational program for area youth this summer.
