Friday, October 3 — Brew Street & Plaidurday   Brew Street kicks off at 6 p.m. on Lakeshore Drive behind the Keweenaw Brewing Company (KBC). Guests can enjoy cold pours from KBC, food trucks, and live music from Toni Saari, The Make Believe Spurs, and Bob Hiltunen. Social district cups will be available, with $1 from each sale donated to the Carnegie Museum of the Keweenaw to preserve local history. At 7 p.m., Brew Street also hosts this year’s official Plaidurday group photo, moving the tradition downtown for the first time. Saturday, October 4 — Color Run & Fall Festival   The Keweenaw Color Run returns at 9:30 a.m. with a family-friendly, untimed 5K through downtown Houghton. Participants are showered with colorful powders along the course and receive their own color packet at the start. The run is open to all ages — no times, no winners, just fun. Right after the race, The City of Houghton’s Fall Fest takes over Houghton’s waterfront pier from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Families can enjoy tractor rides, cider pressing (including bring-your-own apples), pumpkin sales, kids’ games like bowling on the pier, and cozy fall photo ops. Keweenaw ATV club, is Oct. 6th 2025. At 7:00 p.m. At the Hubbell VFW in Hubbell Mi. It is also our annual meeting. We will vote in club officers. And also vote on club business. If you would like a officer’s position, please be at this meeting. The regular monthly meeting will follow. We will give updates on all our projects. Please attend and bring a friend.

The October meeting of the local Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (MARSP) Houghton-Keweenaw Chapter will be held om Tuesday, October 7th, at the Bluffs in Houghton.  The business meeting will begin at 12:30 pm followed by a Buffet lunch.  The guest speaker will be Jacob Spear of Elder Law.  All members are encouraged to attend.  Contact person – Steven Karpiak, 482-8455.

Better Together will meet on Thursday, October 9 at 9:30 at the Zion Lutheran Church on 400 Ingot Street in Hancock.  The speaker will be Carol Jones and her topic will be, “What’s on Your Mind?”  Carol and her husband Mel ran the Gitche Gumee Bible Camp for almost 40 years. She is a gifted woman in many ways! Special music will be provided by Stephanie Veenstra and Katelyn Eshbach. They are missionaries in India. Mission United Church in Pelkie will be holding their annual HOLLY & HARVEST bazaar on Saturday, October 11, 2025 from 9am to 1pm.  Brunch will be served at 9am and luncheon at 11am.  Homemade bakery, jams and jellies, Christmas decor and quality rummage will be offered.

Coat the Copper Country. The winter wear drive is underway with collection boxes at local businesses and churches. We are also accepting winter wear and monetary donations at the Angel Mission Free Store, 433 5th St, Calumet, MI 49913. We will offer two days for our initial winter-wear giveaway. The first is for children notified by the schools to participate in the program. Those children had opportunity to pre-register for the program and will pick up items at The Salvation Army in Hancock on Friday, October 24, 4:00-8:00, pre-registration is required.
