August 7th at 4pm, the library will be hosting a live reading with writers and artists featured in the ninth edition of the Walloon Writers Review, a literary magazine inspired by the Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan. This publication is a beautiful collection of poetry, short stories, and nature photography. Artists that will be present are Kate Allore, Milton Bates, Susan Boback, Patty Durell, Lisa Fosmo, Stephen Hooper, Elizabeth Kerlikowske, Ellen Lord, & Elizabeth J. Bates.

Friday, August 8th at 1pm, there will be a craft for teens where they will create shiny scratch art with recycled CDs, wood stylus tools, and their imagination. Ages 13+
August is just around the corner, which means last minute logistics are underway for the 26th Annual Honor Credit Union Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic to be held on Saturday, August 9. Last year’s race was a huge success, thanks in part to all of the volunteers who so generously gave their time and talents to a wonderful community event. If there is any way you could help us get some last minute volunteers we would be so grateful! Below are some examples of what we need volunteers for. Help us to continue this tradition of outstanding community involvement.
On August 9th, the 26th Annual Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic in Marquette County, Michigan makes its return! As the state’s largest point-to-point, mass start mountain bike race, this exciting event draws thousands of riders and spectators to the area. From rugged trails to incredible views, it’s an unforgettable day of outdoor adventure.
Courtney Lake Horse Camp and Ride August 9, 2025 ride with MI-TRALE equestrians members on the beautiful Courtney Lake Trails and Campground. The 14 miles of mostly sandy trails takes you through a diverse forest landscape, around and near two lakes and across the Firesteel River. Six of the 21 campsites are set up for horses with corrals. Campsites are on a first come first serve basis and you pay at the campground. There are dispersed campsites options nearby, as well as parking areas for day-use visitors. At the Downtown Marquette Farmers Market, you will find over 70 vendors gathered to exhibit their locally grown, collected, and crafted products. Stop by the Marquette Commons every Saturday from 9 am – 1 pm to enjoy local farmers, bakers, artisans, musicians, and more!
