    The Finlandia Art Gallery and Finlandia Foundation National (FFN) are pleased to present Northern Tier, an exhibition of oil paintings by Finnish American artist Eric Aho. The exhibit will be on display from September 18 to November 13, 2025, at the Finlandia Art Gallery, located in the Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock.  A reception for the artist will take place on Thursday, October 9, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., with an artist talk beginning at 7:20 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.   • Superior Shipwrecks Exhibit Opens at Beaumier Center

    The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center at Northern Michigan University will open a new exhibition titled “Gales of November: Shipwrecks on Lake Superior” at noon on Friday, Sept. 19, in its gallery in Gries Hall. From the earliest days of sailing vessels on Lake Superior, November has taken its toll on the maritime trade. This exhibit will look at some of the more famous and fascinating shipwrecks that led to either the disappearance of a vessel or its eventual destruction.   In November, large arctic air masses in Alaska and Canada begin to make their way southeast across the lakes, while low-pressure

  • Sand Point Road to Close Oct. 2-8 for Culvert Replacement at Pictured Rocks

     MUNISING, Mich.- Sand Point Road will be temporarily closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic east of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore boundary from approximately Oct. 2 through Oct. 8, 2025, for a culvert replacement project. The closure may extend through Oct. 10 if additional time is needed to complete the work. The Sand Point Marsh Trail, Sand Point Beach, and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Headquarters will be inaccessible via Sand Point Road during this time. This closure will not impact access to Munising Memorial Hospital, the Munising Falls Visitor Center, or private residences on Sand Point Road. See map for exact

Teams race throughout the trails, rain or shine, all weekend at the Negaunee Township Hall Park! Instead of a sled, Mushers will use bicycles, scooters, wheeled rigs or run behind the dogs (canicross). The new “A Minecraft Movie” will begin at 12:45pm in the Community Room – popcorn provided during the movie (or kids are welcome to bring a snack or lunch) and make Minecraft Self Portraits while you watch the movie! Drop-in activities will run from 12-5 in the kids’ room, including LEGO building Minecraft style in the Makerspace and building with big blocks in the Great Room.  No admission charge.
