    The Finlandia Art Gallery and Finlandia Foundation National (FFN) are pleased to present Northern Tier, an exhibition of oil paintings by Finnish American artist Eric Aho. The exhibit will be on display from September 18 to November 13, 2025, at the Finlandia Art Gallery, located in the Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock.  A reception for the artist will take place on Thursday, October 9, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., with an artist talk beginning at 7:20 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.     The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center at Northern Michigan University will open a new exhibition titled “Gales of November: Shipwrecks on Lake Superior” at noon on Friday, Sept. 19, in its gallery in Gries Hall. From the earliest days of sailing vessels on Lake Superior, November has taken its toll on the maritime trade.   • Sand Point Road to Close Oct. 2-8 for Culvert Replacement at Pictured Rocks

     MUNISING, Mich.- Sand Point Road will be temporarily closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic east of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore boundary from approximately Oct. 2 through Oct. 8, 2025, for a culvert replacement project. The closure may extend through Oct. 10 if additional time is needed to complete the work. The Sand Point Marsh Trail, Sand Point Beach, and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Headquarters will be inaccessible via Sand Point Road during this time.     November 3-29.  Peter White Public Library is once again partnering with the TV6 Canathon to help feed our hungry neighbors. From November 3 – 29, the library will serve as a collection point for food items to help stock our local food pantries. As an added incentive to donate, the library is offering Food for Fines, a program that allows library users to resolve overdue fines with the donation of non-perishable food items.     The Marquette Area Sister Cities Partnership in association with the City of Marquette will be hosting a delegation of 8 from Kajaani, Finland, arriving Friday, November 7 and departing Thursday, November 13. The Sister City program with Kajaani, Finland was started in 1997. The program focuses on cultural understanding, international friendship, and sharing of ideas. There will be a presentation by the Kajaani delegation and the Marquette Area Sister City Partnership (MASCP) on Saturday, November 8 from 2-4pm in the Peter White Library Community Room, 217 N Front St. in Marquette.
