    The Finlandia Art Gallery and Finlandia Foundation National (FFN) are pleased to present Northern Tier, an exhibition of oil paintings by Finnish American artist Eric Aho. The exhibit will be on display from September 18 to November 13, 2025, at the Finlandia Art Gallery, located in the Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock.  A reception for the artist will take place on Thursday, October 9, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., with an artist talk beginning at 7:20 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.   • Powerful Tools for Caregivers Workshop

    Powerful Tools for Caregivers, a six-week workshop, designed for the non-professional, informal family caregiver, will be held on Thursdays, August 21 – September 25th, 1:00 – 2:30 pm at the Negaunee Senior Center, 410 Jackson Street, Negaunee. Research studies find high rates of depression and anxiety among caregivers and increased vulnerability to health problems. Caregivers frequently cite restriction of personal activities and social life as problems. In addition, caregivers often feel a lack of control over events and a sense of powerlessness which can have a significant negative impact on their physical and emotional health.     Michigan University will host multiple alumni and community events on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19-20, to celebrate Homecoming. The schedule includes the a parade, tailgate party and sporting events, along with various alumni events and campus tours. To kick off the celebration on Friday, NMU men’s soccer will play the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at noon at the NMU Soccer Fields behind the Superior Dome. Admission is free.
