Northern Michigan University will host its first BIPOC Outdoors Summit & Rest Retreat Aug. 4-8. While the events are centered on promoting joyful and inclusive nature-based experiences for Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) through outdoor activities, skills workshops, keynote speakers and conversations, all are welcome to participate. PWPL will be accepting gently used & clean Halloween costumes and dress-up apparel starting August 4 for the Halloween Costume Swap. Families can attend the costume swap on Saturday, September 23 and look for a new-to-you costume! The Downtown Marquette Farmers Market will be turning the 100 block of W. Washington St. into a festive Night Market where you will find over 60 vendors gathered to exhibit their locally grown, collected, and crafted products. On Thursday, August 7th at 1pm, local artist Emily Weddle will be at the library to lead a class for adults and teens on “Drawing What You See,” featuring observational drawing tips and techniques! All supplies will be provided. Located in the Ray Leverton Community Room.
August 7th at 4pm, the library will be hosting a live reading with writers and artists featured in the ninth edition of the Walloon Writers Review, a literary magazine inspired by the Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan. This publication is a beautiful collection of poetry, short stories, and nature photography. The Michigan State Police (MSP) Negaunee Post is promoting and supporting Camp STAR, a free, weekend-long grief camp that provides a safe, supportive, and healing environment for children and teens ages 8 to 17 who have experienced the loss of a parent, sibling, friend, or loved one. Camp STAR 2025 will take place from Friday, August 8 through Sunday, August 10 and is hosted by STAR Children’s Bereavement Services.
