PWPL will be accepting gently used & clean Halloween costumes and dress-up apparel starting August 4 for the Halloween Costume Swap. Families can attend the costume swap on Saturday, September 23 and look for a new-to-you costume! Drop off gently used and clean costumes to the Teen Zone or Youth Services from August 4-September 19. All Costumes will be free of charge. No donation needed to attend the swap. The Downtown Marquette Farmers Market will be turning the 100 block of W. Washington St. into a festive Night Market where you will find over 60 vendors gathered to exhibit their locally grown, collected, and crafted products. Stop by every Wednesday night from 5 pm – 8 pm to enjoy local farmers, bakers, artisans, musicians, and more!

On Thursday, August 7th at 1pm, local artist Emily Weddle will be at the library to lead a class for adults and teens on “Drawing What You See,” featuring observational drawing tips and techniques! All supplies will be provided. Located in the Ray Leverton Community Room.

August 7th at 4pm, the library will be hosting a live reading with writers and artists featured in the ninth edition of the Walloon Writers Review, a literary magazine inspired by the Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan. This publication is a beautiful collection of poetry, short stories, and nature photography. Artists that will be present are Kate Allore, Milton Bates, Susan Boback, Patty Durell, Lisa Fosmo, Stephen Hooper, Elizabeth Kerlikowske, Ellen Lord, & Elizabeth J. Bates.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) Negaunee Post is promoting and supporting Camp STAR, a free, weekend-long grief camp that provides a safe, supportive, and healing environment for children and teens ages 8 to 17 who have experienced the loss of a parent, sibling, friend, or loved one. Camp STAR 2025 will take place from Friday, August 8 through Sunday, August 10 and is hosted by STAR Children’s Bereavement Services. August is just around the corner, which means last minute logistics are underway for the 26th Annual Honor Credit Union Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic to be held on Saturday, August 9. Last year’s race was a huge success, thanks in part to all of the volunteers who so generously gave their time and talents to a wonderful community event. If there is any way you could help us get some last minute volunteers we would be so grateful! Below are some examples of what we need volunteers for. On August 9th, the 26th Annual Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic in Marquette County, Michigan makes its return! As the state’s largest point-to-point, mass start mountain bike race, this exciting event draws thousands of riders and spectators to the area.
