Local NCT Chapter Addresses Wilderness First Aid The Marquette Area Chapter (MAC) of the North Country Trail will host a presentation on wilderness first aid and vital knowledge hikers should have in case of an emergency at its next general membership meeting, which is open to the public. Houghton’s Jibba Jabba is shaking things up this winter with the introduction of a Friday Night Qualifier. This gives locals and visitors alike a clear, performance-based path into Saturday night’s main event. Historically, Jibba Jabba invites only high-caliber snowboarders in the industry. Now, underdog riders can earn their spot in a fresh way – by putting down their best moves Friday night ahead of Saturday’s competition. 40 people will be able to register on Friday, Feb. 13 starting at 4 p.m. Helmets are required and all ages are welcome. This weekend, downtown Houghton transforms into a street-style snowboarding arena as Jibba Jabba returns with visiting riders, regional vendors, and an electric atmosphere that signals peak winter in the Keweenaw. Friday night features a qualifier to allow more entries into Saturday’s invite-only, professional-grade urban snowboard competition.   Riders to Watch: Charlie “Chuck Wagon” Vandemark (@_chuckwagon_) is a Houghton local and Mont Ripley rider known for smooth style and technical rail work. UP Wild in the Keweenaw UP Wild Gathering Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. Nara Nature Park The UP Wild Gatherings are opportunities to connect with God and each other within our natural world. Each Gathering has a leader who will guide the participants through readings and reflection.  The Gathering will be indoors with an outdoor component. Snowshoes and cross-country skis are welcome. The Gatherings are appropriate for all ages, including families and children. Everyone is welcome, no religious affiliation is necessary.

Copper Shores Community Health Foundation is hosting Safe Sitter Essentials with CPR on February 21 and 22, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District CTE Training Center in Ontonagon. Guy Consolmagno, SJ, the former head of the Vatican Observatory, and now current head of the Vatican Observatory Foundation, with a specialty in meteorites, is a Jesuit brother who will come to both Houghton and Chassell for a series of presentations. He will be giving 1colloquium and 3 presentations for the public from February 19-21, 2026. His last presentation on February 21 st will be geared towards children and their families.
