The community is invited to come together for the 10th annual Suicide Prevention Walk on Saturday, September 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Ray Kestner Waterfront Park in Houghton. The walk aims to raise awareness about local suicide prevention, reduce stigma surrounding mental health and show those who are struggling that they are not alone.   Over the past decade, the walk has grown into a meaningful opportunity for community members to connect, honor loved ones and support one another. Copper Shores Outreach & Education is hosting CPR Training on Monday, September 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Twin Lakes Volunteer Fire Department. Training costs $55 per person, with a maximum capacity of eight people.   The American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED/Blended Learning training program includes first aid, CPR and AED instruction in a preliminary online course (that will take about two hours to complete), followed by a hands-on, in-person skills session with trainers that will take about two hours.   Registration is open now at coppershores.org. Registration will close when it is full.

The second-annual Canal Colors Festival takes over downtown Houghton Oct. 1-3, bringing several of the Keweenaw’s favorite fall traditions together for one packed weekend along the Portage Canal. The festival combines Plaidurday, Brew Street, the Keweenaw Color Run and Houghton Fall Fest, while adding new events, competitions and activities throughout the weekend. Coordinated by Visit Keweenaw, the City of Houghton and Circle UP, formerly Keweenaw Young Professionals, Canal Colors was built around one of the Keweenaw’s best fall backdrops: downtown Houghton and the Portage Canal, where steep hills on both sides of the water turn with the season and reflect across the canal. Thank you to
