Copper Shores Community Health Foundation is hosting Safe Sitter Essentials with CPR on February 21 and 22, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District CTE Training Center in Ontonagon. This two-day training is offered at no cost, including lunch each day and is open to all Copper Country students in sixth through eighth grade. “It’s not just about babysitting; it’s about being trusted, learning independence and gaining skills you can use in everyday life,” said Heather Johnson, Safe Sitter instructor. “Taking this course is a great way for young people to learn the skills and confidence needed
Br. Guy Consolmagno, SJ, the former head of the Vatican Observatory, and now current head of the Vatican Observatory Foundation, with a specialty in meteorites, is a Jesuit brother who will come to both Houghton and Chassell for a series of presentations. He will be giving 1colloquium and 3 presentations for the public from February 19-21, 2026. His last presentation on February 21 st will be geared towards children and their families. 16th Annual CopperDog Race. February 27th – March 1st, 2026 The race will start in Calumet, MI on Friday night. It will run to Eagle Harbor then Copper harbor finishing back in Laurium on Sunday for the first time. Additional CopperDog events will be held in Laurium on Saturday. copperdog.org

The Big Annie team is bringing back their Warm UP with “Big Annie” fundraiser during CopperDog weekend! Join the fun on Friday, February 27, from 4:00–11:00 PM at Elks Lodge #404 in Calumet. Stop in to warm up with chili or a sloppy joe, browse the silent auction, and enjoy the festivities. The bar opens at 4:00 PM, with live music from 8:30–10:30 PM by the Brewgrass Band.
