• Marquette – Youth Sailing Lessons

    Youth Sailing Lessons Offered this Summer   The Marquette Junior Yacht Club will again offer youth sailing lessons this summer to the public. The program will provide the basic fundamentals of sailing for beginner ages 8-17 and expanded skill training for returning intermediate sailors. Instruction takes place both on and off the water by certified sailing instructors at the Marquette Yacht Club location, E Main Street, Marquette. Students will convene daily at the MJYC boathouse space generously donated by the Marquette Fish Producers.   The 2025 schedule is as follows: July 7 – July 11, July 14 – July 18,

    Local law enforcement invited to mental health crisis training June 17-18, 2025 The following press release was posted on our website on May 30, 2025.   The City of Houghton Police Department and Copper Shores Outreach & Education invite all local law enforcement agencies and officers to a free, two-day training aimed at equipping first responders with tools to handle behavioral health emergencies. This training will take place June 17 and 18 at the Copper Country Intermediate School District Service Center (809 Hecla Street; Hancock) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.   Designed specifically for Michigan first responders and crisis teams, the training includes three components:

  • NCT Group Hike

    Come hike with us through a beautiful hardwood forest on a serene, old logging road and forest trail. It’s a great chance to enjoy some of the quiet beauty of our northern forest and spend some time with your fellow NCT hikers. The hike begins at the Lakenenland parking lot on M28 and heads for the North Country Trail shelter. From there it heads east along an old logging road to the Jeske Flooding boat ramp and then on to the new NCT boardwalk. Our hike will be led by Dennis Fattaleh, an experienced group hike leader.   • NMU Arts and Athletics Golf Outing

      Northern Michigan University Athletics and NMU Theatre & Dance will team up once again for the seventh annual Arts and Athletics Golf Outing on Thursday, June 19, at the Marquette Golf Club. The event supports both departments’ students and programs. Four-person teams can play either the Heritage course for $150 per person, or Greywalls for $250 per person. Tickets include 18 holes with a cart, dinner, refreshments on the course and a thank-you gift.
