Copper Country Community Band Announces Summer Concert Series The Copper Country Community Band is proud to present a series of five summer concerts across the Keweenaw. Under the direction of Amy Johnson and Micah Erickson, this all-volunteer group of approximately 35 musicians from across the Copper Country will bring audiences a lively mix of marches, classic concert band repertoire, and popular medleys. All concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. – All concerts are free to attend. Donations are gratefully accepted at the other concerts, with the concert on Thursday, August 28 specifically going towards the Houghton County Road Commission, to raise funds
Wednesday, September 10, 1:30 p.m. Tai chi instructor Sensei Traci will lead us through some history on the benefits of practicing the ancient movement exercise of tai chi. This afternoon of learning will provide a welcoming space to try out the intentional movement practice proven beneficial for both mind and body. Door prizes, complimentary Dead River Coffee. The first Fall meeting of the Michigan Association of School Personnel, Houghton-Keweenaw Chapter (MARSP) will be held on Tuesday, September 2nd at Gino’s in Hancock. The business meeting will begin at 12:30 pm followed by a buffet lunch. The guest speaker is Kathleen Harter. director of Meals on Wheels. All members are encouraged to attend. The next general membership meeting of the Marquette Area Chapter of the North Country Trail will be September 2, Tuesday, at 6 p.m. in the Community Room (downstairs) at Peter White Public Library. This month’s program will feature a presentation by John Frick about his hiking adventure in the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. Known for its monasteries, fortresses, welcoming people, and stunning landscapes, Bhutan is a destination few have the chance to experience.
