The Keweenaw Food Co-op in Hancock will host a native plant sale by Keweenaw Wild Ones on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Over 30 different species will be available to suit a wide variety of growing conditions, from dry to damp and sun to shade. These plants support local wildlife, including birds, butterflies, and pollinators. Plants are priced at $3.50 each, or two for $6.

The first Fall meeting of the Michigan Association of School Personnel, (MARSP) Houghton-Keweenaw Chapter will be held on Wednesday, September 9th at 12:30 pm at the Bluffs in Houghton. Better Together will meet on Thursday, September 10 at 9:30 at Zion Lutheran Church at 400 Ingot Street in Hancock.  The speaker will be Maura Leinonen and her topic will be, “Joyfully Following Jesus.”  Special music will be provided by Kristin Kytta of Chassell.  All area women are invited to attend this fun and inspiring event. A brunch will be served and there is a suggested donation of $10.  All proceeds over the cost of the event will be donated to local charities. The community is invited to come together for the 10th annual Suicide Prevention Walk on Saturday, September 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Ray Kestner Waterfront Park in Houghton. The walk aims to raise awareness about local suicide prevention, reduce stigma surrounding mental health and show those who are struggling that they are not alone.   Over the past decade, the walk has grown into a meaningful opportunity for community members to connect, honor loved ones and support one another. This year, local students chosen for their leadership in supporting youth mental health through the CCISD’s Green Bandana Project,

UP Wild in the Keweenaw would like to announce its upcoming monthly event. UP Wild Wilderness Walk – “Foraging with Faith” Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell (Gather at the campfire ring at the back of the northside parking lot.) The Wilderness Walks are opportunities to connect with God and each other in an outdoor natural setting.  Each walk has a leader who will guide the walk and stop along the way for readings and reflection.  The walks are appropriate for all ages, including families and children. No religious affiliation is necessary. Everyone is welcome!

Copper Shores Outreach & Education is hosting CPR Training on Monday, September 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Twin Lakes Volunteer Fire Department. Training costs $55 per person, with a maximum capacity of eight people.   The American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED/Blended Learning training program includes first aid, CPR and AED instruction in a preliminary online course (that will take about two hours to complete), followed by a hands-on, in-person skills session with trainers that will take about two hours.   Registration is open now at coppershores.org. Registration will close when it is full.
